Chapter 1312: Slow-motion

Chapter 1312: Slow-motion

The shorter alien had shot at Liiza while Khan was locked in a fight with his taller companion.

A purple-red storm surrounded the area, isolating the battle in that part of the sky. However, the shorter alien didn’t need to do anything to cross it. His animalistic presence, enhanced by the glowing gas on his back, removed that mana out of existence, allowing his safe passage.

Ice spears greeted the shorter alien’s exit from the area isolated by the storm. They had taken him by surprise, making full use of the disappearing blinding purple-red light, but that hardly mattered against the evolved warrior’s obliterating presence.

The spells lost their sharp tips, bodies, and origin as they neared the shorter alien, disappearing in a matter of seconds. The black evolved warrior even expected that, not slowing down at all, to reach his target as soon as possible.

More spells flew at the shorter alien. Array of spears, spikes that suddenly materialized before his face, ice crystals that exploded into white, freezing clouds, and more followed one another, occasionally acting together. Still, they all disappeared before anything could touch the evolved warrior.

The shorter alien’s charge looked unstoppable, and he even brought it up a notch. His descent had never been in a straight line toward Liiza. The evolved warrior eventually landed on the landmass at some distance from her and started running, only to get on all fours to achieve a sudden acceleration.

Spikes, sharp columns, and more exploding crystals tried to hinder the shorter alien, but nothing worked. The mana simply couldn’t exist around him, so he put everything into his charge. His trotting left a fuming black trail behind him, eradicating the very landmass he was running on, culminating in a leap.

The shorter alien jumped, accelerating even more. His leap was almost horizontal, flinging him at high speed toward the woman who hadn’t moved since the beginning of the battle.

Liiza was still holding her belly, her other hand resting on the short column at her side. Nothing in her arsenal seemed to work, and the shorter alien’s leap was too sudden and fast to dodge. It only took an instant for the evolved warrior to appear above her, swinging down his fuming hand as if it were a paw.

Still, as hopeless as the situation appeared, something unexpected did happen. The shorter alien had long since forsaken any thought that didn’t involve repaying Liiza for the injury, but the exchange was strangely giving him time to harbor different ideas.

That didn’t make any sense. The leap should have made the attack instantaneous, but there the alien was, flying in mid-air while slowly lowering his fuming hand.

The alien’s sharp senses could give the impression of time slowing down, but that still felt wrong in that situation.

Moreover, it was going on for too long. Minutes seemed to have passed since the evolved warrior had started to lower his fuming hand, which was still nowhere close to Liiza’s head.

By the time the shorter alien realized that something was off, Liiza had started to move, and her gesture didn’t share that slow-motion. If anything, it looked faster than anything the evolved warrior had ever seen.

Liiza’s cold expression didn’t betray any emotion as she lifted her free arm. The shorter alien was basically in front of her, so she pointed her fingers directly at his face.

The dark-blue fingers became partially transparent, turning ice-white while releasing a spell that somehow survived the alien’s obliterating presence.

Liiza’s now-frozen fingers seemed to shrink while an ice crystal materialized on their tips. The item was utterly pure, shining with the fairest color in the world, but blood-red shades quickly tainted it, triggering an explosion.

The world in the shorter alien’s vision turned white. A wave of freezing, invasive energy enveloped him, cutting him off from anything outside of that chilling gale.

Ice started to spread on the shorter alien’s figure while his physical and mental functions began to slow down. Even his obliterating presence weakened, suppressed by the chilling gale that exploited that window to inflict more damage.

The shorter alien was still slowed down by whatever technique Liiza had used, and her attack was applying similar effects to his very existence. However, the black smoke on his back flared, flickering higher than ever to send new strength to his aura.

The entire gale suddenly vanished as if it had never existed. The same went for the ice that had accumulated on the alien’s body and the landmass in that specific spot.

The previous technique had dispersed the alien’s momentum, but the gaseous pillars on his back pushed him down, and his figure shot forward as soon as his foot touched the grey sand.

Everything was happening at normal speed now, so Liiza simply couldn’t dodge. The alien was already upon her, and his lunge sent his left hand straight to her belly, piercing it and coming out of her back.

The alien’s grin widened, ecstatic that he had finally reached his prey, only to freeze in the next second. No blood came out of Liiza’s belly. Her wounds featured cracks instead of torn flesh, which spread over her body as her entire figure turned white.

An ice-statue of Liiza replaced her, exploding before the obliterating presence could eradicate its energy. A storm of white shards and chilling gales engulfed the shorter alien, blowing around him.

A new layer of ice covered the grey sand. Snow and ice crystals stormed over the alien, trapping him in a blizzard that attempted to freeze his existence again. However, his glowing black gas was still blowing, and he unleashed its full power.

The shorter alien threw his head back and released a guttural cry. Part of the smoke flickering on his figure changed shape, becoming a half-spherical burst of dark light that expanded around him.

The dim, dark light obliterated the storm, freeing the alien from that troublesome spell and releasing him. The evolved warrior could lower his head at that point, fixing his scarlet irises on a distant figure to his left. Liiza hadn’t been hard to find, but he didn’t get the chance to charge at her again.

The shorter alien felt something, only for the entire world around him to crash down. An unbearable weight had landed upon his head, slamming him down to the landmass, which cracked under that pressure, making him the center of a perfectly circular hole.
