Beast Taming Patrol

Chapter 296: The Ghost Evolution!

Forget it, next time for sure.

On the lotus stone platform, Yun Zhenzhen’s gaze shifted from the man and his pet, deep in thought, before she refocused and started to absorb the power of Body Tempering Qi once again.

“Ghost, you…” Lin Su took a deep breath, and after stepping into the dark environment, he couldn’t help but ask, “Have you awakened the Emperor Force Field?”

“Hee…” (No…)

Facing Lin Su’s expectant gaze, Ghost felt a bit embarrassed and covered its face.

Definitely not this…

“It’s okay, no worries.” Lin Su smiled and comforted Ghost, with a slight sigh in his heart.

As expected, it hadn’t evolved into an Emperor species, had it?

He was overthinking it.

Though the extra resources were abundant, their quality was only at the fourth or fifth level. Lacking real high-tier resources, how could it easily undergo a qualitative change and become an Emperor species?

“Hee! (But I have awakened Monarch Power!)”

As Ghost spoke, an invisible fluctuation surged from its body, giving Lin Su a slight feeling of being suppressed nearby.

This sensation quickly dissipated; Ghost merely demonstrated the skill briefly before withdrawing it.

Although this skill is a guaranteed awakening for monarch species, Ghost had already known it would awaken it after evolving, but it was still very excited.

Before this, having teamed up with Qiuqiu every day to challenge the Beast Tower, it had suffered attacks from Beast Tower opponents who wielded Monarch Power. The indignity of not having Monarch Power was too much to bear.

But now, it, Ghost, also had Monarch Power!

Once its Monarch Power quickly advanced to Tier III, it could stroll through the Beast Tower with ease!

“Amazing!” Lin Su encouraged with a smile.

He wasn’t surprised at Ghost’s awakening of Monarch Power either.

If so many resources had been spent on evolving and it hadn’t even reached a monarch species, he would have devoured those resources himself on the spot.

“Shall we try out your core technique now?” Lin Su’s face lit with anticipation, unable to refrain from speaking out.

The Joker Clown’s core technique, Shadow Concealment, would transform into a brand new core technique, Shadow Magic, after evolution.

But this transformation was somewhat different from typical ones.

Normally, the transformation of a core technique involves developing a brand new skill based on the existing one, similar in form to the original core technique.

For example, Qiuqiu’s Frost Storm transformed into Frost Silence Storm, which added the special ability of Freezing Spirit based on Frost Storm, significantly increasing its power.

However, the transformation from Shadow Concealment to Shadow Magic is better understood as an expansion pack.

Shadow Magic consists of three sub-skills related to shadows.

These three sub-skills are: Shadow Concealment, Shadow Clone, and Shadow Lock.

They are considered part of the same skill because these three sub-skills are highly interconnected. When training, it’s not necessary to train all the sub-skills; training one can also enhance the proficiency levels of the others, thus boosting the proficiency grade of Shadow Magic.

One major advantage of this skill set is that, as a core technique, Shadow Magic can reach Tier V, meaning all included sub-skills can achieve Tier V as well.

Of course, Shadow Magic is not without flaws.

Firstly, its proficiency grade advances very slowly because there are three sub-skills, and regardless of which one is trained individually, the amount of training needed to boost the proficiency level is tripled.

Secondly, none of the sub-skills within Shadow Magic is particularly powerful when taken on its own. All three are on the level of the initial core technique and do not compare to other core techniques enhanced by regular transformations.

There’s no need to mention Shadow Concealment; it’s effective for concealing aura and energy but severely limited on its own, with no direct combat capability.

The second sub-skill within Shadow Magic, Shadow Clone, is a useful support skill. It can use shadows to condense a clone identical to oneself, meant to confuse enemies; however, the clone has no combat power and can only use the Shadow Concealment skill.

Normally, Shadow Clone is used in conjunction with Shadow Concealment.

After entering a Shadow Space using Shadow Concealment, using Shadow Clone can condense a clone that leaves the Shadow Space before the original body, confusing the enemy while the original body looks for an opportunity to attack.

However, compared to some skills that can condense clones to aid in combat, Shadow Clone seems somewhat mediocre.

As for the last sub-skill, Shadow Lock, it is the only offensive skill among the three sub-skills of Shadow Magic.

Like Shadow Clone, it is used in conjunction with Shadow Concealment.

After entering a Shadow Space using Shadow Concealment, using Shadow Lock can condense chains with dark energy to temporarily lock the Shadow Space, making it immobile.

An immobile Shadow Space means that the shadow it occupies also cannot move.

In turn, this results in the entity casting the shadow being temporarily immobilized.

This means that as long as Ghost enters the shadow of an enemy and then uses Shadow Lock, it can temporarily immobilize the enemy.

The duration of immobilization depends on the gap in strength between the parties and the proficiency level of Shadow Lock.

However, this sub-skill has a fatal flaw: while using Shadow Lock, the spellcaster cannot leave the Shadow Space.

If the spellcaster leaves the Shadow Space, the effect of Shadow Lock will disappear simultaneously.
