Beast Tamer Ascension

Chapter 65: The Westward Journey for Immortal Teachings

Chapter 65: The Westward Journey for Immortal Teachings

The following day, the Beast Taming Sect remained calm as usual. Ordinary disciples were still unaware of the Sect Regulatory Office’s directive.

Having learned of it early, Lin Jing had begun preparing to leave the sect again. Elder Divine Pine intended to take the Pine Leaf Mouse into the Great Wasteland to cultivate the Everlasting Emperor's Longevity Art, so Lin Jing dared not delay.

Before departing, he visited familiar figures such as Elder Black Bear, Elder Mo, and Elder Yu—elders who had always been kind to him. Who knew when he might see them again?

However, upon returning, Lin Jing wore a strange expression. These elders didn’t seem as upset as he had expected.

“They actually seem... happy?”

A pinecone appeared from nowhere and said, “Of course, those Golden Core elders wouldn’t be sad. Ninety percent of the Beast Taming Sect’s resources have always been controlled by the Demon King ancestors.

“Now, due to the Sect Regulatory Office’s directive, those Demon Kings are forced to allocate the sect’s resources to cultivate human cultivators.

“They’ve had no hope of breaking through to Nascent Soul, stuck at the peak of Golden Core for years. But now, with the sect’s transformation, each elder is allocated a significant amount of resources. With enough opportunity, they might seize this chance to advance. Why should they be upset?”

“Didn’t you also get 100,000 Spirit Stones and a space artifact?”

Lin Jing nodded. “True. It’s the Demon King ancestors who should be upset, not the elders.”

“My beloved Tiandu Peak…” Elder Divine Pine sighed. “I was so fond of that peak.”

“But there’s no helping it. Even the top-tier immortal sects must heed the Sect Regulatory Office’s commands. A few Demon Kings are powerless to resist. Now, it’s up to the Beast Taming Sect’s human cultivators to prove their worth.”

Divine Pine glanced longingly at Tiandu Peak.

“Well, since your farewells are done, pack your things. It’s time to set out. A hundred years is fleeting. Treasure the time I’m here with you.”

At Elder Divine Pine’s words, Lin Jing immediately returned to his cave and picked up his brand-new artifact, the Beast Taming Meditation Staff.

“Hidden Dragon Academy is located in the ancient domain west of the Great Wasteland. This journey really is a westward quest for immortal teachings.”

Lin Jing inspected the staff again.

Typical meditation staffs were wooden, exuding a natural and serene aura aligned with the Buddhist ideal of purity and returning to nature.

However, the Beast Taming Sect had no such aesthetic concerns. They used whatever materials were available. This staff was metallic, with a smooth, cool surface adorned with simple cloud patterns.

The staff’s head was composed of two interlocking rings, forming a spherical shape symbolizing perfection and inclusivity.

Lin Jing looked at the dragon carp in his pond, scooped it up, and wedged it into the spherical staff head. The carp fit snugly—an embodiment of the staff’s motto of inclusivity and perfection.

“Alright, fish, spit fire!” he commanded, raising the staff high.

After a month of training, the dragon carp had learned to respond to simple instructions.

Hearing the word “fire,” its dull eyes lit up. Opening its mouth, it unleashed a fiery jet.

“Fire Control Technique!”

With the staff in one hand and a technique gesture in the other, Lin Jing manipulated the flame into a crude fire dragon that coiled in midair.

He nodded in satisfaction.

Unfortunately, the space artifact could only house contracted pets after being refined. The dragon carp couldn’t move in just yet. Thankfully, since it had mutated into a flame carp, its dependence on water had diminished. Now, it treated the water as a hot spring for relaxation. The only downside was the occasional risk of it turning into fish soup.

Besides soaking in the water, Lin Jing noticed it also enjoyed sunbathing, which minimized travel hassles.

“Squeak…” The Pine Leaf Mouse emerged from the gourd, staring at the dragon carp lodged in the staff. It seemed to ponder whether this was a fortunate or unfortunate fate for the fish.

After bidding farewell to the elders, Lin Jing also copied the three core secret techniques of the sect: the Fusion Secret Art, Immortal Rebirth, and Beast-Weaponization. He also acquired the complete Beast Taming Technique.

These techniques would become critical for him to achieve powerful combat strength after Foundation Establishment.

In the Qi Refining stage, Beast Taming cultivators focused on laying a foundation. Their strength depended entirely on their pets. But upon reaching Foundation Establishment, they could learn the core secret techniques, enabling the cultivators themselves to unleash formidable power. Lin Jing eagerly anticipated that day.

...

“The Longevity Body has departed.”

Atop the sect’s peak, Sect Master Xu Xiaoyao stood beside a snowy-white Immortal Crane.

“A Longevity Body joined the sect, and Elder Divine Pine emerged to protect it. Who would’ve thought that so much could change while I was away? I’m curious—has Elder Divine Pine’s cultivation reached the Nascent Soul stage?”

“It’s occupied Tiandu Peak for countless years. Every sect master has found it unfathomable. It’s arguably the Beast Taming Sect’s strongest force. With its protection, the Longevity Body brought back by Elder Mo should thrive,” the crane said.

“If Elder Divine Pine truly is at the Nascent Soul stage, the Beast Taming Sect’s Demonic Fortune would be incredible. Wouldn’t it bear full responsibility?”

“That’s unlikely. Let’s focus on what’s ahead. This is the sect’s greatest transformation in a millennium. Whether it leads to decline or a return to glory depends on this century,” the fifth-generation sect master mused.

In his gaze, Lin Jing, who had left the mountain gate, sat cross-legged on a cluster of red leaves, holding the dragon carp meditation staff as he ventured into the depths of the Great Wasteland.

The Pine Leaf Mouse controlled the red leaves, their glow enhanced by Buddhist radiance and the Everlasting Emperor's Longevity Art. Its mastery over flora allowed it to maneuver a hundred leaves simultaneously. By combining dozens of leaves, it could barely manage to carry a person in flight for a short distance.

“Senior Divine Tree, which way is the Bloodsucking Vine?” Lin Jing and the Pine Leaf Mouse, unfamiliar with the terrain, relied on Elder Divine Pine for guidance.

The Divine Pine’s voice echoed in their minds, filling them with anticipation. The Pine Leaf Mouse accelerated, their red glow streaking across the sky like a shooting star.

The Great Wasteland loomed with its towering mountains and boundless terrain. Beyond it lay another region. But the wasteland’s depths were teeming with ferocious beasts, malignant plants, and perilous grounds. Only high-level Golden Core cultivators could dream of traversing it.

After taking breaks to rest, Lin Jing and the Pine Leaf Mouse resumed their journey without incident. A few man-eating monsters emerged, but Lin Jing’s subtle use of Illusionary Path sent them fleeing in terror. The Divine Pine didn’t even need to intervene.

Mist enshrouded the mountains as they arrived at a serene lake. Guided by Elder Divine Pine’s voice, they stopped. The area teemed with demons, making it uncharted territory even for Beast Taming Sect disciples.

The lake’s edge bloomed with wildflowers, and verdant vines stretched from the water to the land. The tranquil setting seemed idyllic. Clear lake water attracted small beasts, but as they drank, vines snared them, dragging them into the depths. Moments later, crimson ripples spread across the surface.

“The Bloodsucking Vine,” Divine Pine remarked. “A second-tier malignant plant capable of devouring even Foundation Establishment beasts when fully grown. Sadly, the times have changed. It now relies on instinct alone, unable to develop intelligence, which makes it less dangerous.”

“Do you know how to set up a Spirit Gathering Formation? Train here for a while. There are no powerful demons nearby, and the lake has plenty of mosquitoes that the vine likes. It’s perfect for you.”

Lin Jing nodded. “Everything has spirit, even flora. Except mosquitoes—those pests have none. I’ll cultivate here and see which mosquito dares to drink my blood. Fish, you’ll stand guard.”

“Blub...” The dragon carp’s dull eyes betrayed its struggle to comprehend.
