Vol 3 Chapter 2: Thousand Illusions Mountain
Under Lin Jing’s control, the Qi Refinement teenager spilled everything.
His name was Lin Yun, a member of the Lin Clan from Linlang City.
Though he lacked any special physique, he had an exceptional mastery over True Energy, allowing him to execute techniques with extraordinary finesse.
For the past few months, Lin Yun had been experiencing a strange recurring dream—one that hinted at a great opportunity hidden within the Evergreen Forest.
At first, he dismissed it as a mere dream. But after having it more than ten times, he started to suspect that a high-level cultivator was using dreams to bestow him with a fated chance.
So, he came to the forest to seek it out.
“What an idiot…” Lin Jing shook his head, retracting the spider silk before instructing Ice Soul Gu to erase the boy’s recent memories. Then, he turned and left.
“What opportunity? As if it’s real…”
“The so-called opportunity he’s talking about is most likely a scam.”“They lure a so-called 'genius' like him out of his clan, deceive him into venturing deep into the wilderness, and then—bam—kidnap him. …No one understands being abducted better than I do.”
Having personally experienced the Yin Corpse Sect’s attempt to kidnap and sell him, Lin Jing had zero faith in these so-called fated opportunities—they were just elaborate traps.
Yet, as he continued flying forward, he suddenly halted in midair.
His gaze locked onto a cave entrance, concealed beneath a dense canopy of trees.
At first glance, the mountain appeared utterly unremarkable, but Lin Jing, whose mastery of Illusion Arts was second to none, could easily perceive the illusion formation concealing the cave.
He hesitated for a moment before flicking out a strand of spider silk, dragging a manual out from within the cave.
The grandiose name of the technique momentarily stunned Lin Jing.
Wait… was there actually an opportunity here?
But as soon as he flipped open the manual and read its contents, he fell silent.
Yeah. No thanks.
“To cultivate this technique, one must first sever their roots. Only by severing your roots can you slay immortals! I, the Rootless Immortal, spent two hundred years perfecting this divine technique during my Core Formation stage. Alas, my lifespan is running out, and I can no longer see this divine art reach its full potential… I hereby leave it in this place, awaiting a fated successor. If you have found this, it means your talent is as extraordinary as mine. Remember my name—Rootless Immortal! May you master this Immortal-Slaying Art and, with great determination, defy the heavens and sever the Dao!”
Lin Jing flipped through a few more pages before confirming—this was a completely useless technique.
Without hesitation, he tossed it back into the cave.
If that Qi Refinement kid had found this so-called opportunity, he likely wouldn’t have cultivated it anyway.
Shortly after, Lin Jing arrived in Linlang City.
Qingzhou was divided into sixteen regions, similar to the Nine Domains of the Ancient Celestial Kingdom. Each region was home to numerous cultivation sects and cities.
However, unlike the Ancient Celestial Kingdom, Qingzhou was far more chaotic. Demonic cultivators ran rampant, which was precisely why the Yin Corpse Sect had established its main base here.
Beyond that, sects like the Harmony Sect, which specialized in flesh trade, and assassination organizations flourished here far more than in the Ancient Celestial Kingdom.
Of course, while there was no imperial government, cultivators who slaughtered mortals indiscriminately or used them for cultivation experiments were still hunted down and exterminated by rival sects.
Especially if the mortals in question resided within a sect’s territory.
After all, cultivators don’t just appear out of thin air.
Cultivation sects needed a large mortal population to produce talented disciples. Whether they wanted these disciples to inherit the sect’s Dao or simply use them as cheap labor, they needed people.
Thus, when demonic cultivators massacred mortals for their own cultivation, orthodox sects saw it as a direct attack on their foundation.
Lin Jing gathered more information upon arriving in Linlang City.
He learned that Thousand Illusions Mountain was located in Senluo Path, one of Qingzhou’s Sixteen Paths.
The weakest faction in Senluo Path was called Senluo Hall, which had no Void Mystical Stage cultivators overseeing it.
However, Senluo Path was also home to three first-rate factions, each with Nascent Soul-level powerhouses:
- Myriad Beast Sect
- Flower Sect
- Thousand Illusions Mountain
“…Right, I almost forgot—Senluo Path is where the Myriad Beast Sect of Qingzhou is located.”
“What a coincidence.”
Lin Jing wasn’t sure whether the Myriad Beast Sect’s Deputy Sect Master and his two disciples had returned from the Ancient Celestial Kingdom yet.
Those three knew him to some extent.
But as long as he avoided using techniques that could expose his identity, he should be fine.
Originally, Lin Jing had planned to head for Tongtian Path, the strongest path in Qingzhou, ruled by the most powerful human faction—Tongtian Tower.
Tongtian Tower was a pill-refining faction.
Qingzhou had always been renowned for its herbs and alchemy, far surpassing the Ancient Celestial Kingdom in pill refinement techniques.
And the most prestigious alchemy faction in Qingzhou was none other than Tongtian Tower.
Rumors claimed that Tongtian Tower housed a sentient Celestial Pill.
Just a trace of its aura could grant a cultivator a massive surge in battle power.
The Tower Master was said to be so powerful that even among Dao-Seeking cultivators, he ranked among the strongest—entirely thanks to this Celestial Pill Spirit.
One of the reasons why the Ancient Celestial Kingdom had never annexed Qingzhou was because of this very Celestial Pill Spirit.
Even if the Ancient Emperor could harness the power of national destiny, the Celestial Pill Spirit wasn’t to be trifled with.
At the very least, Tongtian Tower wouldn’t be subjugated as easily as the Ancient Emperor had subdued other sects in the past.
Lin Jing had originally intended to go to Tongtian Path because of its thriving alchemy scene.
Where there was alchemy, there were bound to be many exotic flames—powerful flames used for refining pills.
If he could find a flame that burned lifespan, he could use it to cultivate the Heavenly Demon Physique.
But now, he had changed his mind.
Even if he found such a flame, obtaining it with his current strength and wealth would be nearly impossible.
Moreover, Tongtian Path was crawling with high-level cultivators.
With his current Illusion Dao abilities, he wouldn’t be able to hide his Longevity Body for long.
His enemies weren’t only the Yin Corpse Sect.
There was another Longevity Body cultivator in this world—one who was currently imprisoned within a powerful demonic beast clan in Qingzhou.
Instead of rushing to Tongtian Path, Lin Jing decided it would be safer to first improve his Illusion Arts in Senluo Path.
Thousand Illusions Mountain was a sect specializing in illusions, led by a Nascent Soul Ancestor who was in permanent closed-door cultivation.
Day-to-day sect affairs were managed by the Sect Master, who was half-step Nascent Soul, bordering on Semi-Divine Realm.
The sect possessed not only the Thousand Illusions Codex, but also two powerful secret techniques:
- Inverse Void Art
- Beast Intent Manifestation
These two techniques made Thousand Illusions Mountain’s combat style unique among illusion sects.
Their disciples manifested illusions of powerful beasts, using their aura and ferocity to inflict mental and spiritual damage on enemies.
Lin Jing smirked.
“Illusion beasts still count as beasts, right?”
“And if they’re beasts… I can tame them.”
“…That works.”
