Book 2: Chapter 85: The Twins

Vol 2 Chapter 85: The Twins

“What’s wrong?” Thunder Pine asked when it noticed Lin Jing staring intently at his token.

“Nothing much. A Demon-Slaying Guard discovered a Yin Corpse Sect stronghold, and I received the intel,” Lin Jing replied.

“Are you planning to raid that stronghold?” Thunder Pine guessed his intention.

“Yes,” Lin Jing said, clenching the token tightly. “The report says two individuals with special physiques are imprisoned there.”

“I recall that’s how the Beast Taming Sect rescued you from a Yin Corpse Sect stronghold back then,” Thunder Pine said.

“Indeed. The nearest Demon-Slaying Bureau branch should have also received the intel. If luck is on their side, those two will be saved. However, this is a rare opportunity for me to take revenge against the Yin Corpse Sect with my own hands. It’s just a small stronghold guarded by a Core Formation demonic cultivator, but even an empire’s downfall can begin with an ant nest.”

“Fine. Consider it a test of your abilities. Go ahead,” Thunder Pine said approvingly. “But I won’t intervene unless a Nascent Soul shows up.”

“Understood.” Lin Jing activated the token, which pointed him toward the stronghold.

With the Ice Soul Gu successfully reaching Foundation Establishment and its bloodline elevated from King-tier to Emperor-tier, Lin Jing’s strength had risen significantly. His cultivation advanced from Qi Refinement Stage 11 to Stage 12, just as the Child Immortal had predicted. Combined with his other trump cards, he felt confident in his ability to handle the Core Formation cultivator guarding the stronghold.

Lin Jing soared into the sky, transforming into a streak of blue light as he flew toward his target.

In a secluded valley near Qianxun City…

A black-robed elder stood before the lifeless body of a Foundation Establishment Demon-Slaying Guard, a gaping hole in the guard’s chest. The elder casually waved a hand, and the body disintegrated into ash.

Behind him were two gray-robed Yin Corpse Sect cultivators escorting a young boy and girl, both bound by a spell. Tears welled in the captives’ eyes as they saw the fallen Demon-Slaying Guard.

“Master, it seems the Demon-Slaying Bureau has discovered us. Should we evacuate immediately?” one of the gray-robed cultivators asked.

“No need,” the elder said. “I’ve already arranged the transaction with the buyer here. Changing the location now would be too troublesome.”

“Complete the trade quickly, and then we’ll leave. Your efforts in capturing these two have been commendable. I’ll make sure you’re rewarded after the deal,” the elder promised.

“Yes, Master!” Though they felt staying was risky, the two gray-robed cultivators dared not disobey.

The young captives, a boy and a girl with similar features, were Qi Refinement cultivators. Despair filled their eyes as they anticipated their grim fate. The captors, meanwhile, marveled at their good fortune—snagging a pair of Twin Physiques so effortlessly.

The Twin Physique manifests only in twins. Individually, it has no effect, but when the twins fight together, their minds synchronize, allowing them to share techniques and amplify their strength exponentially. This made them formidable in battle.

Suddenly, a beam of white light pierced through the heads of the two gray-robed cultivators, killing them instantly. A Core Formation Demon-Slaying Guard, clad in crimson armor and exuding righteousness, appeared in the sky.

Seeing him, the elder cursed their luck for not insisting on relocating the trade. The young captives’ despair briefly gave way to hope.

But that hope quickly turned into horror.

“You arrived quickly,” the Yin Corpse Sect elder said coldly to the Demon-Slaying Guard. “Next time, keep your subordinates in line.”

“That one was new and foolish. He’s paid the price with his life, hasn’t he?” the guard replied. “The usual deal: I’ll destroy this stronghold, and you take the twins.”

“Your spoils are already inside the stronghold,” the elder said indifferently.

The twins froze in fear, their hearts sinking into a frozen abyss. They never imagined that the Demon-Slaying Bureau’s guards—dedicated to eradicating evil—would collaborate with their captors. RâŊоꞖÈS̈

Struggling futilely against their bonds, they realized they were mere goods in this transaction.

Unbothered by their thoughts, the Demon-Slaying Guard remained focused on his cooperation with the Yin Corpse Sect. Over the years, he had used his position to secretly feed them information in exchange for rewards. This arrangement had allowed him to rise from Foundation Establishment to Core Formation, his path far smoother than the perilous battles he once endured.

As the trade neared completion, a strange laugh echoed from the sky.

Thunder Pine, observing the scene from above with Lin Jing, couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, this is interesting. I wonder what you think of all this?”

Lin Jing’s expression remained cold. “What’s there to think about? This is common enough.”

“Except now there are two Core Formation enemies instead of one.”

“At least they’re only early-stage Core Formation,” Lin Jing said calmly.

“Who’s there?”

Neither of the Core Formation cultivators had sensed Lin Jing’s presence due to his layered concealment techniques. It was only when Thunder Pine’s laugh drew their attention that they noticed him.

“A Qi Refinement cultivator?”

Both were puzzled by the sudden appearance of such a low-level intruder. However, with their deal exposed, they shared a single thought: eliminate him.

“Die!” the Demon-Slaying Guard roared, his eyes shooting twin beams of white light— the same technique that had killed the gray-robed cultivators earlier.

Lin Jing raised his hand, and a surge of icy energy spread from his arm, freezing the beams mid-air. Snowflakes began to drift down, and the twins looked up at Lin Jing with a mix of awe and disbelief.
