Vol 2 Chapter 81: Reasoning
“Container, your strength is still too weak. Directly absorbing your nutrients would hinder your cultivation and ultimately affect me as well,” the Ice Soul Gu stated with calm logic. “It’s better to consume external resources, like the extreme cold here or that fish, rather than depleting you directly.”
Lin Jing didn’t even need to analyze the situation; the Ice Soul Gu had already outlined the pros and cons with flawless reasoning.
“You make a good point, but that fish is your companion, not your food,” Lin Jing replied, his expression dark.
“What I intend to feed you is this.” Lin Jing retrieved the Myriad Beast Circle and pulled out a Mosquito Beast that had absorbed Longevity Blood.
The Ice Soul Gu sensed the Mosquito Beast and fell silent for a moment, seemingly unimpressed.
“I prefer food with ice attributes. This mosquito doesn’t suit my tastes,” it finally said.
Lin Jing clenched his fist. “The Flame Dragon Carp is fire-attributed. Why did you find it appealing?”
“Eating too much cold food isn’t good for my system. Occasionally, I crave something warm. My organs told me so,” the Ice Soul Gu muttered.
Lin Jing nodded. That… sounded reasonable.Reasonable, my *ss!
Annoyed, he threw the Mosquito Beast into the cold pool. The Flame Dragon Carp immediately swam over and swallowed it. Unlike the Ice Soul Gu, it could refine the Mosquito Beast’s metallic essence with its Flame Refinement ability, facing no digestion issues.
“You should learn from it—at least it’s not picky about food.”
The Ice Soul Gu scoffed disdainfully, clearly unimpressed by the Flame Dragon Carp.
Sensing the gu’s emotions, Lin Jing suddenly smirked. “It looks like you’re underestimating it. How about a little wager?”
“A wager?” the Ice Soul Gu tilted its head in curiosity.
“This Flame Dragon Carp is your key partner. It can assist you in growing stronger. Let’s settle this: the two of you will fight. If it wins, you’ll acknowledge its strength and stop treating it with contempt. You’ll also obediently train and provide it with your support.”
“And if it loses?” the Ice Soul Gu asked.
“If it loses, it’ll stop interfering and follow your lead. All decisions will be yours to make,” Lin Jing proposed.
The Flame Dragon Carp froze, stunned by this sudden challenge. Fight the Ice Soul Gu? Was this a joke?
The carp was confident it could crush Lin Jing in an instant, let alone the spider. “It’s doomed to lose,” it declared smugly.
“Let’s begin, then,” the Ice Soul Gu said, releasing the Flame Dragon Carp.
In the next moment, the cold cavern was filled with a terrifying chill as the snow-white spider fully emerged. Its icy blue eyes locked onto the Flame Dragon Carp in the pool below, where the fish appeared dumbfounded by its rival's overwhelming aura.
Boom!
The Ice Soul Gu unleashed its strength. Its eleventh-stage Qi Refinement cultivation, combined with the bloodline of a Gu King, released a frigid wave that even Lin Jing found life-threatening.
The Flame Dragon Carp trembled under the Ice Soul Gu’s predatory gaze.
“It woke up, and it thinks it can replace you,” Lin Jing calmly explained to the carp, which began to shake with fury.
Without waiting for further provocation, the Ice Soul Gu pointed a sharp, crystalline leg at the carp, releasing a torrent of bone-chilling cold that surged toward it. Though the carp was at the tenth stage of Qi Refinement, its bloodline and cultivation couldn’t withstand the Ice Soul Gu’s superior power.
But just as the spider felt certain of its victory, it noticed something strange about the carp’s trembling—was it fear, or… rage?
“Suck it!!!”
The Flame Dragon Carp roared, producing several jade bottles seemingly out of nowhere.
Grade-Three Pills!
The carp devoured them one by one:
- Primordial Essence Pill: Temporarily boosted its strength to Foundation Establishment.
- Frozen Heaven Pill: Granted unparalleled resistance to ice and snow.
- Blazing Sun Pill: Amplified the power of its fire-based techniques.
Despite its low cultivation and bloodline, the carp’s resourcefulness turned the tide. As it swallowed the pills, its aura skyrocketed. Fiery dragon-shaped flames coiled around its body, elevating it to the peak of Foundation Establishment for a brief period.
One pill to swallow, and the heavens bow to my will!
With a ferocious glare, the Flame Dragon Carp erupted with fiery might. Under the Ice Soul Gu’s stunned gaze, it transformed into a blazing dragon, its searing flames vaporizing the frigid cold in an instant.
Moments later, the carp emerged victorious, leaving the Ice Soul Gu crippled and sprawled at Lin Jing’s feet. “Weakling,” the carp snorted before retreating to a quiet corner to endure the side effects of its pills.
Lin Jing shook his head at the battered spider. “You might be powerful, but you’ve learned an important lesson today. The cultivation world is merciless. Even a seemingly foolish and weak Flame Dragon Carp can pull out unexpected tricks and crush you.”
“From now on, listen to me. I’ll ensure you avoid unnecessary suffering.”
The Ice Soul Gu didn’t argue. Though its wounds healed rapidly in the icy cavern, its pride had been thoroughly shattered.
“You still look unconvinced,” Lin Jing observed. “Fine, I’ll give you one more chance.”
He gestured to the Suspended Gourd hanging at his side. “Inside this gourd is another companion of yours. It’s excellent at cultivating spiritual plants. If you can defeat it, I’ll let it grow Ice Spirit Plants here to provide you with food. The other terms remain the same. What do you think?”
The Ice Soul Gu raised its head, surprised by Lin Jing’s generosity. “You’re actually giving me another chance?”
“I won’t lose this time,” it said confidently.
Without hesitation, Lin Jing sent it into the Suspended Gourd.
It never came out again.
Later, while Lin Jing savored a few bites of Hundred Flower Immortal Honey and practiced the Art of Shedding, he glanced at the Beast Taming Space and discovered the Ice Soul Gu bound once again. The Pine Leaf Mouse had used wooden strips to restrain it and was directing it to create icy storage boxes for its hoard of spiritual fruits.
“Was it worth it?” Lin Jing sighed, shaking his head.
Seeing that the Ice Soul Gu hadn’t triggered any unique divine abilities through his Longevity Body, Lin Jing knew it would struggle to rise above its current limitations, no matter how extraordinary its bloodline might be.
