Beast Tamer Ascension

Book 2: Chapter 61: Hundred Flower Valley

Vol 2 Chapter 61: Hundred Flower Valley

Compared to other domains, the Great Wasteland Domain was undoubtedly barren, yet it earned the nickname Haven for Wanderer Cultivators. This land teemed with countless beasts and ferocious monsters. The sheer variety and number of these creatures surpassed any other domain in the Nine Domains. According to the Ancient Kingdom, the Great Wasteland likely housed the highest concentration of Demon Kings deep within its expanse.

Many rogue cultivators made a living by hunting beasts, exchanging the materials harvested from them for spirit stones. They would then rent abodes atop spiritual veins in immortal cities to cultivate, living lives constantly on the edge.

Above the Great Wasteland’s dense clouds, Lin Jing sat cross-legged atop a flying giant pinecone, gazing down at the rogue cultivators battling beasts below. He sighed softly.

“We’re almost in the Great Wasteland. The journey was faster than I imagined,” he remarked. “After the Beast Taming Sect was sealed, I wonder if its disciples have fallen to lives like those rogue cultivators.”

“Of course it was fast!” the pinecone grumbled irritably. “I’m moving at full speed! You wouldn’t spare enough spirit stones for a teleportation array.”

Lin Jing retorted, “The spirit stones we ‘acquired’ wouldn’t even cover a single use of the one-way array. Even if they could, the Pine Leaf Mouse would never allow it. You know how possessive it is.”

He continued, “Besides, with your help, Senior Divine Pine, this was the most practical way back. Rest assured, I’ll fulfill my promise to you.”

“Hah!” the Divine Pine sneered. “Don’t pretend you’re altruistic. I know you’re using me to demand the Immortal Demon Serpent’s treasure. This isn’t about reconnecting with old friends in the Beast Taming Sect; you’re after those riches!”

Years ago, Lin Jing had entered the Demon-Suppressing Pagoda, where the Immortal Demon Serpent was sealed. There, he learned from the serpent about a hidden treasure. He reported this information to the Beast Taming Sect, but he didn’t know if they had explored it after their fall.

He speculated they might have. With the sect’s spiritual veins gone, elders and disciples alike would have faced major cultivation issues. Unearthing treasure from the serpent’s hoard could have alleviated some of these challenges.

Though Lin Jing was the one who discovered the treasure’s location, as a lowly Qi Refinement cultivator, he had no illusions about securing any core items. At most, he’d be rewarded with a magical artifact. However, with the Divine Pine—a Nascent Soul-level protector—making the demand, the sect’s surviving elders wouldn’t dare refuse.

“Senior Pine, that’s absurd,” Lin Jing replied with an air of righteousness. “I’m just thinking about the sect’s well-being.”

The Divine Pine snorted. “And how many days have we been traveling now?”

“It should be around the New Year,” Lin Jing estimated. “January 1st is when Tianji Pavilion publishes the latest Genius Rankings. Let’s stop by a nearby immortal city to buy a copy.”

“Hmph. So now you’re willing to spend?” the Divine Pine scoffed.

Lin Jing chuckled. “No need. The Beast Taming Sect always subscribed to the World Report, so Hundred Flower Valley likely does too. We’ll read it there.”

Hundred Flower Valley was a second-tier sect in the Great Wasteland. While it didn’t have the same rich heritage as the Beast Taming Sect, it boasted a Nascent Soul elder and a Nascent Soul butterfly, providing its foundation. The sect’s specialty lay in its Butterfly Taming Arts, and it had maintained close ties with the Beast Taming Sect over generations.

Unlike the Beast Taming Sect, which relied on long-lived demon kings for its legacy, the Hundred Flower Valley had no such entities. However, this difference seemed advantageous in hindsight, as the sect had avoided the fate of being sealed.

Flying onward, Lin Jing and his companions soon spotted the valley’s mountain range in the distance. Even from afar, the scenery was breathtaking. The air grew fresher as they approached, and fields of wildflowers stretched endlessly below. Vibrant patches of blossoms painted the landscape, ranging from tiny scattered flowers to sprawling seas of color. řáNŎꞖЁṧ

At the mountain gate, two female disciples appeared, blocking Lin Jing’s path. Dressed in light, flowing robes embroidered with intricate butterfly patterns, their delicate features only added to the valley’s charm. Each held a sword, upon which perched a butterfly—one blue, the other yellow—radiating spiritual energy.

“Who goes there?” they called.

Lin Jing stepped forward and bowed politely. “Greetings, Senior Sisters. I am Lin Jing, an Inner Sect Disciple of the Beast Taming Sect. After the sect’s closure, I went abroad to study. I have returned to the Great Wasteland and seek to reconnect with my sect.”

The disciples exchanged glances before the one with the blue butterfly stepped forward. “Do you have proof of identity? I will notify the elders.”

Lin Jing tossed her his Beast Taming Sect disciple token and thanked her. She nodded and entered the valley gates, while the other disciple, with the yellow butterfly, stayed behind and observed him curiously.

“He must have been an important member of the Beast Taming Sect,” she speculated aloud. “Yet I don’t recall hearing of him.”

“Oh? What makes you think so?” Lin Jing asked with a smile.

She gestured to his lack of a Beast Taming Space Artifact. “Such artifacts are reserved for the sect’s true disciples. But your Qi Refinement stage cultivation seems low for that rank. I only recall an Elder Feng accepting a disciple by that name.”

Lin Jing chuckled, “I do have a companion beast.”

At that moment, a red dot appeared in the sky, gradually descending. The disciple soon realized it was an unusual red Dragon Carp.

“Roar!” With a loud cry, the Dragon Carp hovered beside Lin Jing, flaunting its formidable aura.

The carp radiated an air of arrogance, clearly relishing its dominance. For a moment, it feared Lin Jing might have left it behind with the Divine Pine. Thankfully, it had made it here—just barely!
