Beast Tamer Ascension

Book 2: Chapter 33: The Gifted Pill

Vol 2 Chapter 33: The Gifted Pill

"Who asked you?!"

The moment Lin Jing brought out the pill, the new disciples immediately understood his true intentions for coming out of seclusion.

It seemed that training his new pet was just an excuse—his real purpose was to introduce a new product and earn some fame!

“Didn’t ask, huh?” Lin Jing blinked, retracting the pill with a smile. “Looks like I misheard.”

“But, Fellow Daoist Wang, won’t you buy one? You’ve seen its power for yourself!”

Wang Xiao let out a cold snort, raising his Starry Blade. A deafening thunderclap boomed as heavenly lightning descended, channeling through the blade and striking his Heavenly God Physique. His entire body radiated with lightning and wind energy, shrouded in violent currents.

“Wind Thunder Flash!” Wang Xiao’s figure vanished in an instant.

The Dragon Carp’s eyes darted around nervously, and in the next moment, a loud cracking sound came as its scales shattered. Despite holding the advantage moments ago, the Dragon Carp was now smashed into the distance, leaving a deep trench across the arena.

Wang Xiao stood in place, surrounded by swirling wind and thunder, his expression cold and stern.

“The Dragon Carp you raised is indeed stronger than an ordinary beast with king-level bloodlines, but that’s all there is to it. Nothing more. Earlier, it was merely because I hadn’t fully adjusted to suppressing my cultivation…”

He spoke calmly, but before he could finish, his brow furrowed. To his surprise, the Dragon Carp, having just been struck down, leaped back up, lively and vigorous as if nothing had happened.

“Even the innate Heavenly God Physique at the Tenth Stage of Qi Refinement has to admit that a dragon-blooded beast raised with the Rising Dragon Pill surpasses ordinary Demonic King progeny!” Lin Jing remarked.

“I DID NOT SAY THAT!!!” Wang Xiao gritted his teeth, gripping his battle blade even tighter, utterly infuriated. He was clearly mocking the Dragon Carp, not praising it!

Once again, Wang Xiao’s figure disappeared. Though the Dragon Carp had managed to overpower him in “aura” and “strength” earlier, in terms of speed, Wang Xiao was on an entirely different level.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

The Dragon Carp spat out several fireballs toward Wang Xiao, but he easily dodged them all. In the blink of an eye, Wang Xiao reappeared behind the Dragon Carp, slamming it dozens of meters away once more.

“Now do you see?” Wang Xiao took deliberate steps toward the Dragon Carp. Just as he was about to continue speaking, Lin Jing cut in again.

“Everyone, don’t be fooled by the fact that the Dragon Carp is currently being suppressed. I suspect that this state of stimulating the body with heavenly lightning is something Fellow Daoist Wang can’t maintain for long. Besides—”

“SHUT UP.”

Wang Xiao was beginning to regret accepting the challenge. Earlier, when the Dragon Carp had the upper hand, Lin Jing wouldn’t stop rambling. Now that Wang Xiao had turned the tide, Lin Jing was still talking nonstop.

Irritated, Wang Xiao decided to change tactics. Instead of targeting the Dragon Carp, he leaped forward, shattering the arena as he charged straight at Lin Jing!

“Break—”

But just as Wang Xiao focused entirely on Lin Jing, he failed to notice the astonishing transformation taking place on the Dragon Carp.

The Dragon Scales Fire on its body began to compress wildly, its temperature skyrocketing. The flames turned violent, coalescing into the shape of a massive flaming dragon head, which shot toward Wang Xiao with a deafening roar.

Bang!

Wang Xiao, with his full attention on Lin Jing, let his guard down for just a moment. That moment was enough. The flaming dragon head slammed into his abdomen, caving it inward. His eyes rolled back slightly, saliva spurted from his mouth, and he was sent flying more than ten meters before managing to steady himself. Clutching his abdomen, his expression was grim.

Lin Jing looked at him with an odd expression. “Demonic beasts with dragon bloodlines possess incredibly strong physical bodies. Even an innate Heavenly God Physique attacking at full power can’t suppress them quickly.”

Despite its shattered scales and fresh wounds, the Dragon Carp still flailed about energetically. The most shocking part was its terrifying self-healing ability—its injuries were closing at an exaggerated speed.

“Pfft.” Yao Ai coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Meanwhile, Lin Jing, struck by Wang Xiao, was also sent flying, and for a moment, the scene fell into silence.

That last exchange had caused immense destruction, far surpassing the Dragon Carp’s earlier attacks, and had clearly dealt a significant blow to Wang Xiao.

The impact was enough to break Wang Xiao’s self-imposed suppression. He coughed up another mouthful of blood as his cultivation returned to the Foundation Establishment stage, stabilizing him.

“Flame compression... that’s yet another fire-controlling technique only a third-grade alchemist could master!”

To the untrained eye, it was a spectacle, but to someone knowledgeable like Ziling’er, the truth was far more impressive. She pondered aloud, “Typically, demonic beasts are crude when it comes to controlling spiritual energy. They rely entirely on their bloodline strength, and their techniques are wild and unrefined. How is this Dragon Carp so different?”

Ziling’er wasn’t aware of this, but the Dragon Carp had no choice in the matter. Normally, reasonable people know that demonic beasts are naturally bad at controlling power, so they simply avoid pushing them too hard, playing to their strengths instead to save time.

But Lin Jing? He didn’t follow normal conventions. He forced the Dragon Carp to practice alchemy with him.

Is fire control progressing too slowly? No problem. With their long lifespan, they could afford to train patiently over time. Gradually, as the Dragon Carp kept practicing, it realized it wasn’t as difficult as it first seemed.

Again!!!

Wang Xiao glanced at the arena, then extended his hand to recall his weapon. His anger burned furiously as he realized that Lin Jing had disrupted his focus. He was too eager to defeat Lin Jing, which had caused him to make repeated mistakes.

Just as Wang Xiao was preparing to suppress his cultivation once more and continue the fight, Lin Jing shook his head, signaling that it was time to wrap things up.

“Fellow Daoist Wang, this is a Rising Dragon Pill. It can grant ordinary demonic beasts a powerful dragon bloodline. I raised my dragon-blooded pet using this pill and the Hidden Dragon Arts. Let’s call this match a draw, and thank you for your guidance. Please accept this pill as a token of my gratitude.” Lin Jing casually tossed a pill to Wang Xiao.

“What kind of joke is this?!” Wang Xiao caught the pill, clearly unwilling to let the fight end here.

However, as he thought about the battle, a realization dawned on him: he had yet to face Lin Jing directly. If a mere Dragon Carp had already pushed him to such extremes, how difficult would it be if Lin Jing himself joined the fight? His expression darkened.

This Dragon-blooded Carp… why was it so strange? He had fought juvenile Demonic Kings before, yet none had been as troublesome as this carp.

"If Lin Jing truly fought alongside it and used all of its abilities, including his secrets, I might still win against the carp, but I wouldn’t stand a chance against them both. How could there be such a frustrating Beast Tamer technique?!"

Wang Xiao glanced at the Dragon Carp, whose expression oscillated between ferocity and blankness, then let out a deep breath. Clenching the pill in his hand, he turned and left, knowing that continuing the fight would only make things worse for himself.

"I need to raise my own demonic pet!"

What Wang Xiao didn’t realize was that while he believed he could defeat the Dragon Carp, the beast had only used the surface level of its strength. Its more sinister abilities, such as Ghostfire and other demonic techniques, had yet to come into play.

After Wang Xiao left, Lin Jing understood that his goal had been achieved.

The story of Lin Jing from the Beast Taming Sect raising a dragon-blooded demonic beast using the Hidden Dragon Arts and a special pill to fight the Heavenly God Physique to a draw would undoubtedly spread like wildfire.

With a slight smile, Lin Jing turned to face the silent crowd of geniuses below the arena. “Are there any other Fellow Daoists who would like to exchange pointers?”

“If, like Fellow Daoist Wang, you suppress your cultivation to the same level and either draw with or defeat my pet, you’ll receive a Rising Dragon Pill as a reward.”

The crowd remained silent. A draw? Competing against a carp that could stand on equal ground with the Heavenly God Physique at the same level? Who here could claim they had the ability to fight it evenly?

Suddenly, someone in the audience broke the silence. “This Rising Dragon Pill of yours—what’s the price? If I bought a few, could I really raise a dragon pet as powerful as your carp?”
