Chapter 602: Elemental Eye (Part 2)

Although Saleen was in deep sleep, his body was still able to react instinctively. The fire spell that Joey infused into Saleen’s body was much more powerful than a typical grade-9 mage’s. Naturally, his eyes began to absorb this power.

Eyeballs were the weakest parts of the human body. Usually, only swordmasters would be able to train up this body part slightly. Now, Saleen’s eyes were evolving automatically and were absorbing the power of the fire spell.

The red-colored power of fire element, blue-colored power of water element, and gold-colored electric runes combined together in Saleen’s eyes. Saleen looked like a magic beast more than ever before and his body began to transform.

Three-hundred and sixty gold-colored magic runes were finally injected with green-colored power of life. Joey could sense the changes taking place in Saleen’s body and infused his body with another fire spell, followed by grade-9 water-colored soul runes, grade-9 Spring Returns to the Earth, wind spell, Shining Bright, and Night of Deep Sleep.

Joey used all the atypical grade-6 healing spells on Saleen and a cycle was created in his eyes. The six major elements maintained a delicate balance and were gradually absorbed into Saleen’s eyes. Finally, Saleen’s eyes turned black again.

Once Saleen’s condition had stabilized, Joey began to look through the scroll that Saleen had given to him. Out of the three-hundred and sixty runes on the scroll, Joey could tell that a small portion was similar to the patterns on a lightning dragon. The only reason why Joey could not be entirely sure was that lightning dragons were rarely captured so his knowledge was all based on pictures.

Nevertheless, he was convinced that these three-hundred and sixty runes were what helped Saleen to attain lightning ability. What Joey could study was limited if Saleen did not wake up. He could only follow the pattern in which Saleen wrote the runes and familiarize himself with how they were created.

Joey took out a blank scroll and wrote four lightning runes on it. The moment he finished writing, black smoke began to appear from the scroll. A silver-colored electric current shone on the surface of the scroll and it was burned immediately.

Joey took out another blank scroll and began to write down lightning runes according to his own understanding. For the next twenty scrolls he tested on, all of them were burned. These runes possessed lighting abilities, but Joey had yet to learn how to control them.

Saleen was too tired so he had only written down the magic runes and not the magic patterns. Even if he had the energy to do so, he had yet to study how to draw them onto the scrolls.

It was not that Joey did not have grade-10 blank scrolls, but he did not want to use it for no good reason. It was difficult to find grade-10 creatures on Myers Mainland now. It would be a waste if he encountered such a creature but did not have any grade-10 scrolls with him.

After six hours, Joey was able to copy all the lightning runes accurately, but was still unable to create the scrolls. Fortunately, Saleen regained consciousness at this point. He opened his eyes and felt a strange power within them. It was as if another set of magic chords had appeared in his body.

A pale gold light shone from Saleen’s eyes. The light solidified into a complicated magic pattern five yards in front of him. There were moving magic runes within the magic patterns. This complicated magic pattern gradually vanished after three seconds. Saleen had controlled the lighting power within them.

Saleen was pleased that there was no discomfort in his eyes. Whenever he used eye of lightning in the past, he would lose his vision temporarily. Half an hour of blindness in a battle was too long.

Joey was surprised yet he could also understand that some combat mages would use alchemy to tattoo magic arrays and magic patterns onto their bodies. This would shorten the amount of time required to prepare for certain spells. To Saleen, it was as if he had attained one more natural magic array that could improve his abilities anytime.

Saleen was aware of his transformation. The golden light that shot out from his eyes actually concealed two faint paths of electric current. They could be controlled and when they merged together, that was when the complicated magic patterns and runes were produced. At this moment, Saleen only knew how use this ability to paralyze an enemy, but not to kill yet.

The most incredible ability of Saleen’s eyes was that he could now see the movements of elements and could immediately pinpoint an enemy’s weakness. He used his elemental eye to look at Joey and realized that the elements that surrounded him were dense and balanced. Even if Saleen created a magic array, he would not have been able to achieve a similar level of balance.

In other words, Joey had no weaknesses.

The attacking range of eye of lightning was only six to eight yards, which was too short. On the other hand, elemental eye could see as far as one-hundred miles so Saleen would no longer need alchemy binoculars to have a sight of enemies that were a long distance away. Once he utilized this ability, he could see further than anyone else.

“Saleen, do you understand what has happened to your body?” Joey looked at Saleen with an expression that could not be deciphered.

Saleen shook his head and Joey continued, “You should be able to see how the elements functioned in general. Let me ask you, how much longer can you hang on?”

“Half an hour should be alright.”

“In the future, try to keep using this ability even if you may not be in a fight. That is the key to breaking through grade-9. Once you become a grade-9 mage, this ability will mature and you will save a lot of time by then.”

“Thank you, sir,” Saleen thanked Joey sincerely. Regardless of what Joey’s motive was, more than half of Saleen’s improvement must be attributed to him.

“I want to discuss something with you,” Joey said very seriously.

“Sir, please go ahead.”

“I wish to pass on this lightning ability to Bryan. A mage like me will only ever have one disciple.”

Saleen thought about it and said, “If he can turn out to be like you, I have no objections.”

“Alright. I will ensure that the lightning technique will not be recorded down nor simply passed down to anyone without good reason,” Joey was very serious. He hoped that such magic could be spread to many people, but he also understood the current situation on mainland. This technique was extremely important to Saleen. The consequences would be great if others got a hold of the technique.

Saleen took advantage of Joey’s good mood and asked, “Why can’t I see your weaknesses?”

Joey laughed as his green eyes revealed a tinge of slyness. He patted Saleen on the shoulder and said, “I do have weaknesses, but you will not be able to see them until you reach grade-9. It will be the same even if you possessed a godly item. The only way anyone below grade-9 can defeat me is to go head-on against me along with hundreds of other sorcerers.”

Saleen was in disbelief. Joey laughed and said, “I am not stupid. If I can’t win, of course I have to run. Only hundreds of sorcerers will be able to block off all my escape routes.”

“You run away from battles?” Saleen could not believe his ears.

“Of course, how else could I have lived till today? Mages are able to calculate their opponent’s abilities. If you already know that you will lose, why bother fighting on stubbornly?”

“That’s very true,” Saleen calmed down and began to explain to Joey about the secret behind the three-hundred and sixty lightning runes.

Even someone as powerful as Joey understood when to attack and when to flee. Hearing it directly from his mouth deepened Saleen’s understanding of this principle.

Even the strongest would have moments where they would need to retreat. Even the Goddess could fall and would need to rely on others to revive. Saleen decided after he returned to Metatrin City from Holy Rock City, he would build a magical tower and advance into a sorcerer immediately. If he continued to rely on eye of lightning and his clan badge, he would die sooner or later.

Saleen’s thought process simplified and benefitted his magic. This was a common occurrence among grade-6 mages that were about to advance into a sorcerer. Other than having a deeper insight into elements, they would also attain a higher level psychologically that was comparable to other powerful mages. Every mage’s learning point was unique. For Saleen, what he learned was that taking a step back would allow him to perceive every event from a long-term point of view.

From now on, Saleen would no longer be bothered with the temporal losses and would consider long-term issues instead. He was also finally able to let go of past events that he had been holding on tightly to, such as the conflict with Earl Sufonso.

Once again, Joey proved just how powerful he was. He understood everything that Saleen said. Saleen had been going on and on for more than two hours when Joey suddenly chanted a mantra and put his palms together and produced a stream of electric current between them. He then released the electric current which struck a wall that was five yards away.

Saleen saw the electric current disappear upon contact with the wall. Joey’s small wooden tower was stronger and sturdier than any magical tower. A weak lightning power could never harm this wooden tower.

Joey looked at his palms. They had not been hurt by the lightning. He sighed and said, “Saleen, now I think you are a genius. Even if I had a lightning dragon, I may not have realized the secrets of lightning. For you to be able to pick up such a crucial detail, I must say that you are really born to be a mage.”

Saleen smiled awkwardly. He did not dare to call himself a genius in front of Joey. He took about a year to study this lightning power, but Joey took only two hours to master the Paralysis spell.

“Saleen, leave immediately after you familiarize yourself with the six grade-7 spells on the devil equipment. The two companions that came with you can no longer wait,” Joey was referring to Su and Cuisi. Both them could not enter Joey’s courtyard and had no idea what happened to Saleen.

No senses could penetrate through Joey’s courtyard for any form of detection. It was like an independent dimension in which magic could not exist.

“No, I better leave soon. I have a feeling that the House of Commons do not think well of me. If I stay here for too long, something may happen.”

“They will not dare to do anything if I am around.” Joey smiled confidently. The House of Commons did not belong to the Grukos clan and was a compromise between the royal family and the noble families. Safilos controlled the House of Commons and that would remain a fact even if the Grukos clan was extremely powerful. Within Holy Rock City, Joey feared no one.

Saleen thought about it and nodded. Six grade-7 spells had been fixed onto his devil equipment. They would serve as his last means of protection. No one would expect the armor of a mage to contain so many high-level spells. These six spells were grade-7 spells of the six major elements. Once Saleen familiarized himself with them, he would no longer have to fear grade-7 sorcerers.
