Chapter 1302: Chaos (Part 2)
The fighting within Alchemy City was chaotic. The Floating City was unable to get close, so it resorted to attacking with rocks. The city’s territory was incapable of slowing down the rocks. Alchemy city had the most difficulty with pure physical attacks.
There were skills summoning meteorite, but skills like that were imbued with intense elemental vibrations. The city’s territory would be able to lock down on the spells and destroy them.
The rocks were different. They were almost incapable of invoking any elemental resonance for being pure physical attacks.
The rocks raining on the city worked better than magic spells. Furthermore, dark clouds appeared above the Floating City. The clouds were low and shrouded the Floating City. Rocks rained from the clouds, making it seem like the heavens were throwing a tantrum.
The archangel that was about punch through at the east side of the city took the metal angels around instead, heading for the north, toppling over 40 magic towers there.
The archangel’s attacks were far more ferocious than the Bug Angel Warriors’. She usually lashed out with her spear, halting a magic tower’s workings, before having the metal angels cut up a crevice on the tower, enabling them to kill the master within.
The archangel’s slaughter did not stop the mages from retaliating against the Bug Angel Warriors at all. Alchemy City’s mages had finally linked most of the towers together, forming formidable counterattacks. If it had not been rocks raining from above, half of the Bug Angel Warriors would have suffered casualties.
After Imposa sealed the angel of fear, about 10,000 pests lost control. Saleen had no time to capture them one by one. The pests attacked everything they saw, including warriors and mages from ALchemy City.
Imposa’s entourage consisted of over 1,000 Iron Blood Warriors and 200 elite Bug Angel Warriors. Imposa’s charge was faster than the ones guarding his flanks, and only Saleen and Grand Duke Iron Blood being able to keep up with him.
Saleen was able to relate to Imposa’s feelings. The magic amplifier’s restoration was getting close.
If they were only able to reach their destination when the magic amplifier resumed working again, it would be extremely difficult for him to open the underground warehouse even if he had a Dissolution Scroll.
By then, the magic arrays that were laid between the layers of the underground warehouses would be linked with the arrays throughout the city, bursting with formidable defense.
Imposa would have to pay a huge price before being able to leave, even though he might not find the fragments of the gods’ bodies.
Imposa crashed through a pillar with a boom. The debris was repelled by his Water Shield. The purple-gold dragon chanted a string of dragon language, which was rarely seen. It was taking on the debris using only its scales after all.
Saleen did not know that there was a magic clock in Imposa’s mind and there were magic numbers on it, which counted down. It showed the time the magic amplifier would activate.
The original objective had not been the underground warehouse, but seeing Saleen quickly dissolving the ground, which was several hundreds of meters thick, he changed his mind, intending to take fragments of the gods’ bodies.
He was not Saleen and did not need to consider his subordinates’ welfare, so he did not need a lot. One-fifth of its stock would suffice, and both Saleen and the Grand Duke were welcome to take the rest.
Saleen needed the fragments as well. While there were gods within the cemetery of the giant, only fragments of bodies of truly high gods would be able to serve as materials for making powerful equipment.
Saleen was not able to take on any of the powerful fossilized gods, so taking on thousands was definitely out of the question.
Ready-made bones of gods were the most difficult to acquire, as having them around attracted mages’ attention, who would make equipment. If the other gods found the bones, the results would be similar.
Imposa reached the coordinates and the metal cog shot up, shooting up hundreds of meters, before ramming into the ground. He left the metal cog with all of his six legs planted to the ground.
The metal cog was spinning at speeds that even dragons would hesitate over. When the cog hit the ground, it cut a hole over a dozen meters deep.
Imposa held the scroll and jumped into the hole, putting away the metal cog as he opened the scroll. Saleen followed Imposa’s Iron Blood Warriors to take out the surrounding towers instead.
There were three ten-floored magic towers around the warehouse. The magic towers attacked as soon as Imposa hit the ground. Three level 11 spells formed a triangle midair, which was quickly broken by Saleen using Icicle.
Saleen’s Icicle spell manifested 1,200 level 7 icicles. Using level seven spells to nullify three level 11 spells was probably never attempted by anyone in history.
However, Saleen was confident. It was a result he had gotten from his calculations. If he had not been concerned about his enemies having magic towers, he would have prepared 300. When spells were cast from magic towers, their power would be at least doubled, so Saleen prepared four times as many icicles to break the three linked spells.
Every icicle was covered in lightning magic patterns. The spells were meant for stabilizing magic. Saleen manned the Icicle spell alone and was incapable of conjuring electricity. The Icicle spell, which was imbued with lightning patterns worked exceptionally.
The icicles pierced the three linked magic spells, breaking the elemental balance and causing the three linked spells to explode midair. The icicles mostly hit elemental points, preventing the three linked spells from bringing too much power even when they went out of control.
Saleen’s control and calculations impressed the Grand Duke. It was no wonder that Saleen had been able to achieve what he had. He put over ten times more effort than conventional mages.
Saleen’s retaliation caused the three mage trainers in the magic towers to doubt their senses. The enemy is a level ten mage, no doubt, but he is one against three, and we are casting attacks from the magic tower.
Even Saleen hesitated. He had yet to bring the balls of lightning out and had instead relegated the tough mission to Grand Duke Iron Blood. The Grand Duke was capable of at least summoning two level 12 dragons.
Saleen was in no mood to play the hero. He pointed at the crack on the ground. The Grand Duke nodded and Saleen leapt inside.
Grand Duke Iron Blood was not actually as powerful as Saleen imagined him to be. There was a time limit to his dragon-summoning abilities. His skills as a Dragon Knight and his level 12 dragon would allow him to not get trapped and have no need for retreat, even though he might not be able to have his way throughout the city.
Saleen leapt into the hole where Imposa was already dealing with the warehouse below. Saleen scanned the area with his Elemental Eye and found the warehouse was filled with magic metals.
There was a myriad of magic metal, most crafted by humans artificially. However, there were actually natural-occurring magic metals.
While there was nothing like rhenium gold or wrought gold, the metal was more precious than gold. Saleen did not mind and unleashed lightning puppets to loot the place.
He was a king and not a mage like Imposa. Saleen grabbed all of the materials that he found even though they were hardly of any use to him. He had a million soldiers and 1,000 nobles to feed. A king had to be responsible for their people most of the time.
“Sh**!” Imposa yelled, and Saleen felt it too. A formidable force seemed to have appeared in the warehouse. That force did not come from living beings, but from the power of the entire city, bearing down on them from above and connected with the magic arrays throughout the city.
It felt as if a huge magic array was gradually starting up. It felt like the power that was about to be manifested would be strong enough to tear everything apart.
Saleen flashed and appeared right before Imposa. He looked at Imposa’s dejected expression and an urge welled up in him. We must take the fragments of the gods’ bodies in this warehouse.
Imposa retreated and the two scrolls in his hand were taken away by Saleen. He was very shocked.
If Saleen wanted to kill him moments ago, he would have been able to run, but he would have been grievously injured. Since when did this guy get this powerful?
Saleen did not feel excited at all. He knew the difference in power between him and Imposa. After Saleen gained Jalin’s movement skills, Imposa’s edge against him had been considerably diminished.
Furthermore, he had added the lightning icicles, ball lightning, and Thundering Sound skills to his arsenal. Saleen had all the edge he needed to take on Imposa.
Saleen opened the Dissolution Scrolls while Imposa was still looking stunned. Dissolution was not overpowered by the city’s territory while he was within his territory. Saleen shrunk his territory to just enough to cover the warehouse, enabling them to fight the enormous pressure from Alchemy City.
Superiority of territories depended on the level of rules. Saleen’s lightning territory was not something that anything could simply overpower.
Saleen cast a ball of lightning while Imposa looked on with surprise. The ball lightning seeped into the magic array, dissolving part of it.
The functions of Alchemy City’s magic amplifier was restored, but it was unable to prevent Saleen from breaking the magic array in that area. The magic array within the layers of the warehouse recovered rapidly.
Saleen threw a bottle of metallic poisons right away. While it was not as potent as Imposa’s, it was effective against the magic array that was beginning to show weaknesses.
Saleen threw another Dissolution Scroll without waiting for the magic arrays below to react. After that scroll was used, the pressure from above the warehouse was no longer able to stop Saleen.
Imposa’s eyes turned cold. Saleen turned around. “Remember that we have a deal. You’ll only take one-fifth.”
Imposa was dumbfounded for a bit, quickly realizing that Saleen had no intentions of turning back on his word.
According to his assessment, the deal between him and Saleen should have been voided earlier. He was unable to open up the warehouse before the functions of the large scale magic amplifier was restored.
However, Saleen was not to be blamed. If Imposa had not intended to keep the scroll for himself and used only the puppets to break into the first floor of the warehouse, the time lag would not have happened.
“I shall remember today. Thank you.” Imposa’s eyes turned calm. His emotional fluctuations earlier almost triggered the crack in his soul.
“I hope you will.” Saleen did not put Imposa’s word to mind and replied right away.
Imposa laughed and his six legs moved quickly and tunneled into the hole.
