Chapter 1280: The Goddess’ Gratitude (Part 1)

Destroying temples was not a good move for growing luck, but Saleen had already destroyed quite a number of temples, and destroying another one meant there would be less chance of others gaining luck from the goddess by making contracts with her. It was a cut-off method described by astrologers.
It was just like how if there were only two dragons left in the world, both dragons would be incredibly precious, but killing one of them would make the last one more expensive than the original prices of two of them combined.
That was the method employed by merchants. Saleen felt that he was running out of time and so, he was unable to be concerned that much.
The Floating City landed on the ocean and Saleen had the enchanters search for the coordinates. It was far easier that way. The number of enchanters were huge and the radius of the area covered by the Floating City reached 120 miles.
The enchanters found the entrance to the temple for Saleen within mere minutes. Saleen summoned Nailisi and moved the Floating City and came above the coordinates.
Rossen the Water Puppet remained within the magic tower. As the tower was absorbed into the city, its defenses were vastly improved. If Rossen insisted on not coming out, no one would be able to enter and Saleen had no worries of the Floating City being taken.
Saleen and Nailisi dived into the water at great speed. The Stormy Sea was unstable, but once they reached the depth over a mile, the currents beneath became considerably less intense.
The Stormy Sea was incredibly deep. Oceans were commonly about 5000 meters deep and there were some reaching over 8000 meters. However, average depth of Stormy Sea exceeded 10000 meters.
Ferocious magic beasts at the tranquil underwater setting was startlingly high. However, Nailisi had electricity coursing all over her and Saleen was shrouded by his territory. The ferocious beast avoided them. None of them wanted to pick on the two humans.
They dived for over 20000 meters before coming to the bottom of the ocean. Things were very tranquil there and there was only one magic beast sitting there, without any other living beings around. But then again, that magic beast was a huge cuttlefish.
Saleen killed cuttlefish in the ocean before, but only the huge fish found at the southeastern seas, which he had been to, would be larger than that cuttlefish. Every single tentacle of that thing had a length exceeding 2000 meters. There were eight eyes on its head and looked at both Saleen and Nailisi with curiosity.
That was the place it rested and no other beings dared come near. They were the first humans it encountered for the past 10000 years or so.
“Get out!” Saleen shouted using Thundering Shock.
The huge cuttlefish was startled and all of its tentacles twitched for a bit. And then, before Nailisi’s startled eyes, that huge monster under the sea was actually chased away by one shout from Saleen.
“Master...” Nailisi was at a loss for words. That huge cuttlefish was probably a level 11 magic beast and had combat capacity that would fend off level 12 ones.
The cuttlefish’s combat capacity would make it a king of the region even at the Oceanic Ice Block. Nailisi found it baffling that Saleen was able to have it leave with just one shout.
“Don’t get concerned with that. Let’s look at what’s down there.” Saleen pointed at the floor where that cuttlefish sat. There was a huge platform at the floor and an extremely complex magic array was laid on it.
That was not a teleportation portal, but a magic array used for defense. There was a large hole at the center of the magic array, which was also a stable portal.
There was an energy barrier covering the portal, preventing seawater from getting in.
They were over 20000 meters underwater, but the barrier was capable of keeping seawater from getting in. It meant that the barrier was resisting powerful attacks at all times. That was really a precious magic array indeed!
Saleen did not hesitate to memorized the magic array right there and then using a memory crystal, before using a magic spell himself, etching the complex magic array deep within his mind.
He was laying two layers of insurance, but he was not satisfied when he was done. He unleashed his territory and took out starline cloth, beginning to draw the magic array on it shortly after.
He had employed the first two methods in fear of the magic array disappearing. Drawing it manually was actually the most secure way of preserving it. There were many magic arrays that would gradually fade when copied using memory magic and equipment.
The reason why Saleen drew details of that magic array was because defensive properties of that magic array was too powerful, but the cost was the smallest from what Saleen was able to understand.
The power of the magic array was drawn from earth element underwater. That was to say that the magic array had properties beyond that of territories—the power of rules.
Regardless of how complex such magic arrays would be, there was a need to craft them, especially in the case of the Floating City. The city, as it was then, relied solely on its formidable construction materials and the 24000 enchanters for defense.
What Saleen needed was laying out a huge magic array in the middle of the Floating City, which could be activated at any given moment. When done so, he would no longer need to worry about getting hit by powerful magic, even if it approached Alchemy City from above.
It took Saleen over an hour to draw the magic array while covered by his territory. He and Nailisi arrived at the center of the magic array, passing through the defense barrier and entered the portal.
He put up his territory and squeezed Nailisi into the barrier. Other than spending quite a huge amount of mental powers, he had no other problems with it. The Goddess of Myers had laid out the magic array to keep seawater out, not preventing humans from getting in.
The ones intending to resurrect her would have nothing to gain otherwise.
Saleen was never worried about that. It was certain that magic arrays had weaknesses. That one was able to block attacking seawater, but was unable to prevent Saleen and Nailisi, both of whom were wrapped in electricity, from getting in.
Electricity had always been best for dismantling attacks, and defense consisted of elements. Nailisi had been relying on that one skill alone to go into other people’s territories, so much so that she was able to fight up close in it.
Armed with a Grey Memory, a Sword of Rules, a square shield and the meteor hammer that Saleen had crafted for her, Nailisi was all offense. That square shield was a bludgeon weapon in her hands as well.
While her force using shield to bash things was not as fierce as Sika, she was capable of killing many magic beasts known for their defensive capacities.
Saleen felt the difference as soon as he entered the portal. The portal was the more stable than he had ever seen before. It was not supported by external forces, and it seemed to be a hole carved onto the Myers Mainland.
It was not surprising how the magic array was able to keep it safe for so long and not let any seawater seep in.
They finally saw light after moving 200 miles. Saleen kept his distance from Nailisi for a bit. Nailisi took her devil form, which was ten meters tall. She was completely armed, as she was afraid of trouble ahead.
While the goddess’ temples were no doubt for descendants of the mainland, she was not omnipotent. Both of them had encountered the divine baby in the undersea temple. If Saleen had not been armed with his family badge, he would have died.
Saleen and Nailisi were not the type to put their hopes on others. Saleen put up his territory and unleashed Lightning Constellation in the dark.
There was light before them, emanated by thousands of insects. They looked like fireflies, but they were three to five times larger. They moved faster as well.
Saleen observed them for a bit with his Elemental Eye. The bugs posed no threat to them and were not even level one magic beasts.
Where they were was an interdimensional space, albeit a pathetically small one. The entire space was within Saleen’s sight, and it was not larger than any of the spaces in Nailisi’s 12 Notes of First Purgatory.
However, there were living beings within, and there was a yellow sun hanging in the air. There was green everywhere, and tall palaces stood out amidst the jungle.
Saleen saw a thick barrier at the edge of the interdimensional space. Boundless void laid right outside the barrier.
“Nailisi, this is what level 18 professionals were capable of. They had, well...” Saleen saw the barrier and was at a loss for words. His sight allowed him to see through the barrier and be able to catch sight of stars here and then, but his senses were unable to tell him how thick that barrier actually was.
So this is the barrier between planes? 200 miles thick perhaps? The portal had been long, and Saleen was unable to sense any methods to fold the space.
He was of insufficient level, but his judgment was intact.
The place was 240 square miles, and if Saleen stood in the middle of the small interdimensional space, he would not be able to see its edge. His magic amplifier was incapable of amplifying the range of his Elemental Eye’s sight.
“Nailisi, come with me.” Saleen gazed at a corner of the temple in the jungle and felt rather uneasy. There were living beings in the interdimensional space, and they were not hostile, but all of the beings were extinct in the Myers Mainland.
Saleen speculated that the Goddess of Myers knew that the beings were about to go extinct, so she kept them there.
I wonder what is in the temple.
Nailisi saw that there was no danger, but she kept her devil form up. It was not her most powerful form in terms of combat, but it possessed the most resilient life force.
The jungle was filled with harmless creatures. Saleen expanded his territory. He had no intention of frightening the weak creatures; he was simply searching for suspicious things.
No dangers around indeed.
Is this interdimensional space just treasure trove? Once he got the astrology tower, Saleen had lost interest in treasure troves and vaults.
The temple gradually showed what it was originally like. When Saleen got to the temple, he felt that, despite having gone on countless adventures, it was the first time he felt nothing but joy.
The temple was made of wood, and while some places were already rotten, most of it was intact. The rotten parts were not due to attacks but simply a result of age.
The palace was at the core was the most intact. It was built with the most precious wooden materials in ancient times, which differed from the surrounding palaces. That was Saleen’s goal.
The green covered the palace. Saleen used magic to carve a path, while Nailisi walked in front, holding a fireball for light.
Nailisi’s huge foot stepped on the flooring, causing it to creak under her weight. The smell win that dimly lit passage was bad. The goddess had never meant for the palace to be a destination for pilgrimages, so it was not built in a grand and lavish manner.
The interdimensional space was simply prepared for descendants of the Myers Mainland.
Saleen recalled that it was suitable to serve as a supply point. When he opened the path to the East Sea in the future, warships would need to brave the Stormy Sea, and the interdimensional space could serve as an outpost for warships to resupply.
