It was obvious that the superior race members here were each spies. And if they weren't blatant enemies, Atticus might have let them be.
However, he was not a person who entertained his enemies. No matter what.
The Dimensari, Vampyros, and Nullite race members stood on one side of the forest, their heads held high and their bodies radiating an aura of dominance.
The other lower and mid-race members stood far from them, not willing to earn their ire.
As Atticus's gaze settled upon them, it was as though the weight of the world had suddenly rested on their shoulders.
The dominant aura they once exuded was instantly snuffed out.
Not a single word left Atticus's lips.
He did not even deem them worthy of a simple gesture.
Just a slight thought…
And then the earth beneath them shifted violently. The ground swirled like a vortex, churning and twisting until dozens of massive hands erupted from the soil.
Before they could react, struggle, or resist—
WHOOSH!
The earthen hands hurled them like javelins, sending them soaring through the skies at terrifying speeds.
"W-WAIT—!"
"STOP—!"
Their shouts of protest quickly turned into distant, fading screams, their figures becoming mere specks in the sky.
And just like that—
The island was cleansed.
Atticus exhaled softly, calm as ever, as though he had merely brushed away specks of dust.
Then, he focused his gaze on the rest of the recruits, who instantly flinched in fear, praying silently that he wouldn't do the same to them.
'Tch. I didn't think they'd be this useless,' Ozeroth scoffed in his head, his disappointed tone evident.
'I highly doubt these ones can even function as proper servants. The servants of a king deserve to be nothing less than the best of the best.'
His voice grew even more dramatic, as if declaring a sacred truth.
'It is a position not just anyone can fill!'
Atticus sighed, shaking his head. 'Are you seriously making 'servant' sound like a prestigious title now?'
'Of course!' Ozeroth huffed. 'Would you let mere peasants serve in the halls of the divine? No! They must be worthy.'
Atticus rolled his eyes and ignored Ozeroth completely.
Then he focused on the recruits. Atticus let the silence stretch for a moment before he finally spoke, calm, blunt.
"My name is Atticus Ravenstein."
"You've all decided to join my team. Welcome."
There was no warmth in his tone, just a matter-of-fact statement. It was clear he wasn't here to give any rousing speeches.
"I will expect absolute obedience from each of you. Any form of disobedience will get you kicked out instantly. There are no second chances."
A chill ran through the recruits, many standing even straighter, not daring to speak. Besides the humans, who held deep reverence for Atticus, his aura was full. It was as though one of the paragons of their race was currently addressing them.
"Now, I will explain how we will move forward." Atticus continued.
"Each division will remain, but a few changes will be introduced. You will be informed of this at a later time."
Then suddenly, with a flicker of his hand—
A figure soared from below, appearing beside him in an instant.
All eyes snapped to the new arrival.
Aurora staggered slightly, her crimson gaze wide with surprise as she suddenly found herself hovering next to Atticus.
She turned sharply toward him, baffled.
Atticus, meanwhile, looked completely unbothered. If anything, he was trying hard to stifle his laughter.
"Her name is Aurora Ravenstein. And she will lead the collective divisions. You all report to her."
Aurora's eyes widened further, her body going rigid.
A beat of silence.
Then—
A flurry of hands shot into the air.
Atticus could see that most of them belonged to mid-race recruits, their gazes determined.
Atticus's next words were icy.
"In case you still haven't figured it out, this isn't a democracy."
He shot them down without even hearing what they had to say. It was obvious they wanted to 'respectfully' object to Aurora leading.
Before anyone could even lower their hands—
His arm moved.
A single, fluid motion.
A sharp, downward horizontal arc.
BOOM.
The entire island trembled violently. The ground shook, cracked, and then—
A deep, jagged trench tore through the land, spanning the entire island and splitting it in two.
Dust kicked into the air, and the sheer force of the movement left many recruits stumbling.
A heavy silence followed.
Then, Atticus's voice rang out again,
"That side is for you." He gestured toward the half of the island now separated by the trench.
"This side is for me."
His gaze hardened.
"No one is allowed to cross into my territory. Consider it a simple rule, one you do not break."
Atticus let that sink in for a moment before turning slightly, his tone remaining firm.
"Now, make your own shelters. Find your own food. I will send word when necessary."
With that, he turned away, his figure blurring as he vanished, leaving them to process the reality of their situation.
Atticus reappeared on the hard, flat platform in the middle of the island, standing calmly as if he hadn't just thrown a massive responsibility onto someone else.
Aurora had also appeared beside him. She immediately exploded.
"Atticus! You fucking bastard! Why did you do that?!"
Her crimson eyes blazed, her aura flaring.
Atticus, on the other hand, remained completely unfazed, even smiling slightly.
"Come on, Aurora. What did we talk about?" he said calmly, folding his arms as if gently scolding a misbehaving child.
"Language."
Aurora's face twitched.
"I wish to find you a man soon," Atticus continued, shaking his head. "How can we do that when you're so vulgar?"
Aurora froze, her entire body stiffening.
"What are you even yapping about?! 'Man this, man that' who told you I want one?!"
Atticus tilted his head, smirking.
"Are you into…?"
"NO! HELL NO!" Aurora shouted instantly, her face heating up.
Atticus laughed, his body shaking in amusement.
Aurora glared intensely at him, arms crossed, trying to stare him down.
But Atticus only chuckled.
"Chill. Don't you enjoy leading, though?"
Aurora snapped back immediately.
"Don't make it look like you're doing me a favor! The only reason you gave me this is because you don't want to do it!"
Atticus cleared his throat.
Damn.
She was right.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he said smoothly, looking away as if avoiding eye contact would erase the truth.
Aurora scoffed, narrowing her eyes.
"Lazy bitch."
Atticus only laughed harder, thoroughly entertained.
Then, before she could lash out again—
POOF.
With a simple flicker of movement, Aurora vanished, teleported away.
"Have fun!" Atticus called out, his laughter echoing through the air.
