Chapter 1263: Slain
He hadn’t remained still as she spoke, that would’ve been stupid. He had already pulled his blade from her chest, katana flashing as he cut her down into pieces.
However, despite that… Lyress’s words still reached his ears.
“I will never let you go!”
As the last word dropped, a feeling of dread slammed onto him.
Atticus could barely react as the pieces of Lyress’s body suddenly imploded.
A blinding flash of light ignited, and a force exploded outward, slamming into Atticus and sending him hurtling back at insane speed. The explosion tore a rip through the raging storm, sending a thunderous wave through the cavern.
Far away, the champions of Eldoralth felt the ground beneath them tremble with terrifying intensity.
The sound reached them first, a piercing echo that seemed to rupture their eardrums.
Then came the shockwave.
It slammed into them like a heavy blizzard, roaring through their bodies.
Their eyes shifted again to the distance, where they had last sensed Atticus’s aura.
Just what the hell was happening?
Magnus and Aric shot Zenon a look and nodded. They had both taken care of their opponents.
They turned to look at Ozeroth, who, much to their disbelief, was still having the time of his life.
The woman he’d been fighting now had her hands bound and was currently getting spanked by Ozeroth. With the large grin on his face, neither of them saw any chance of him stopping.
Zenon understood the look and quickly nodded.
“I’ll stay with him.”
Magnus and Aric wasted no time and surged toward the location.
Meanwhile, Atticus’s feet skidded across the air as he regained his momentum. He turned his gaze toward the source of the explosion and frowned.
’She blew herself up?’
Atticus couldn’t understand why she had done that. The explosion had torn a hole through his storm. He focused and released it, allowing the mushroom cloud to fill his vision.
’Was it pride?’ he wondered. It could be that Lyress couldn’t bear the thought of being killed by a child and decided to take her own life instead. It sounded stupid to Atticus, but he had seen stupid things in his life.
Because to him, it didn’t make any sense.
Even if Lyress blew herself up, the remnants of her will were still there, right at the center of the explosion. She wouldn’t be able to escape her world falling into his hands. It was a fact she should have been well aware of, which was what confused Atticus the most.
Still, he cleared his thoughts and focused on the explosion.
There would be time to reflect later.
Atticus waved his hand and released a gust of air powerful enough to blast away the haze that covered the entire area. He blurred and vanished, appearing where Lyress had died. Her body was nowhere to be found. There was only nothingness there, well, not nothingness. At least not to Atticus.
His eyes focused on the remnants of Lyress’s will spread around, and he narrowed his gaze, scrutinizing it thoroughly. He tried to see if she had laid any traps.
’Or her will is the trap itself,’ he pondered.
After a few moments of not finding anything, he decided to get it over with. His will spread out and absorbed it all. A moment later, he was done.
’I can’t feel anything wrong with it. It’s the same feeling as the last times.’
He had been suspecting that Lyress might have had some sort of plan. Her words, I will never leave you, still sent a strange shudder through him. Like he had just been marked by a ghost that would haunt him for life. But even so, he couldn’t feel anything different from when he absorbed Dronvet and the Empress’s will.
Atticus concluded it was pride. That was all. And nothing was wrong.
A smile formed on his face.
Now, he had gotten three gods. But those were only the ones he had killed. He was glad to find out the Empress also had a kill under her belt, which meant one more world. The same was true for Lyress.
That was a total of five worlds.
’Possibly nine… when I fight the last one.’
He wasn’t sure who his final opponent would be, but he expected the man to have four worlds when they met. It wasn’t going to be an easy fight, especially considering the man had a concept, but Atticus was ready. He would be ready.
’Now. To the matter at hand.’
He turned his gaze toward a direction, and vanished.
In a blink, Atticus appeared before a scene.
The four champions of Somnera stood frozen, eyes wide as they stared at the source of the explosion.
They had felt it more than anyone else.
That was their god.
Lyress had lost?
The thought felt foreign. It felt wrong.
Who could beat their god?
The answer appeared in front of them in a blur, and the champions fixed their shaky eyes on him.
Atticus.
It was as though they were staring at the impossible. He had defeated their god!?
Atticus’s emotionless gaze bore into them, and it made their insides churn with unease.
“W-Wh—”
One of them was about to speak when the sound of blade sheathing, and then unseating, reached their ears.
Their world tilted before they could even blink.
By the time their heads touched the ground, they had all come to the same realization.
They were dead.
“No… no…”
The Amazonian archer recoiled, unable to believe her eyes.
The child god had actually won a battle with the Somnera god?
What the hell was happening?
She had already drawn her bow at Atticus when he turned to face her.
If Atticus felt proud about what he had just accomplished, he did not show it.
The feeling of death gripped her instantly.
But before anything could happen, a voice suddenly echoed through the space:
“You have successfully slain the king of the Somnera world. You may not kill another. You will be transported to the waiting room in a moment.”
