Tang Shaoyang looked at the screen in front of him. He had two days before he had to leave for his special mission with the Administrator. It was his curiosity about the tower that kept him going. It was disappointing so far, nothing really piqued his interest. What he did was mostly for his empire, not for his own.
“Considering the previous two floors, the next floor will take days to finish as well. Two days might not be enough…”
The fact that he could no longer speed-run each floor discouraged him from going further. The fact that he could spend the remaining two days with his daughters and wives also discouraged him from going further. There was also a little benefit for himself to go further because he had not received a reward that made him stronger so far.
Tang Shaoyang checked his inventory. All the rewards were in his inventory. The Legendary Treasure Chest, the God Rank bodies, and some potion recipes to increase stats as well.
If it was the old him, getting the Legendary Treasure Chest was a big win, but not for the current him. The treasure chest usually gave them equipment, most of the time. If you are lucky, you will get a scroll class or some other treasures that were not part of the main equipment.
Liang Suyin got something good from the Legendary Treasure Chest. She got a ring that increased her Fire Elemental damage and also increased her mana regeneration.
Rosalie also got a necklace with a similar effect, but it increased her magic damage instead of a certain elemental damage also mana regeneration.
Selena got a pair of earrings that increased her healing effectiveness and also gave her a skill called Remedy that could be used to remove poison. There were more such accessories, but they were quite rare compared to the equipment.
Lu An called them magical trinkets, another game terminology he learned from his younger brother. Other people just called them accessories. Those were the good things from the Treasure Chest, and he had his equipment, all God Ranks.
He also had Divine Armory skills so he was not really worried about equipment. That was why he was not interested in opening the treasure chest anymore and kept them in the empire’s treasury instead. He kept them to reward his people who rarely got the chance to get such high-ranking treasure chests.
“Let’s pause the adventure until I finish my campaign in the Skywound Realm…” He furrowed his brow as he remembered the fame of the place he was about to visit for his mission.
People were scared of the Skywound Realm because of its infamous reputation that several Executive Administrators failed to clear it. There was even one recorded death of the Executive Administrator. The reason why Clementine and Arion decided to follow him for the mission.
That meant this mission would take longer than the previous world purification mission. That convinced him even more to spend his remaining time with his family.
He left one spirit behind, one of his shadows to stay with Aella before leaving the tower. Each time he went out of the tower, he would cause a commotion and become the center of attention. Everyone recognized him right now, so he decided to move sneakily until he reached the teleportation site.
The first thing he did once he returned to his home was to visit Glodden’s treasury. The Golden Imp noticed his presence and immediately left his daughter’s side for a moment to receive his pay. It amused me how fast Glodden’s mood changed, from a delightful mood to depression because of how small his treasure was.
His daughters were still in school, so he decided to visit the academy since the school was part of the academy now. He wanted to see where the new Tarrior was trained and formed. It had been a long time since he visited the place.
The one who greeted him was one of his old friends and also a mentor in his early days, Zaneos. The Demon Swordsman was dedicated to his role as Sword Instructor, and the demon received him.
Zaneos knelt with one of his knees on the ground and lowered his head, “I greet Your—”
Before Zaneos could finish his words, Tang Shaoyang appeared in front of him and pulled him up. It shocked Zaneos with how easily Tang Shaoyang pulled him up. That showed the gap between him and Tang Shaoyang in terms of stats.
“I am not here for an official visit, Zaneos. Don’t make it awkward for me, please,” Tang Shaoyang whispered and fortunately, people did not really notice something weird. The people around thought Zaneos stumbled, and Tang Shaoyang helped him up.
He wore all black, covering himself with a black cloak and a white wooden mask with two holes for the eyes. No one recognized him this way because he did not want a flock of people following him around when he was at the academy.
“I see…” Zaneos nodded.
“Treat me like I am your old student, Master,” Tang Shaoyang smiled.
“I will obey your request,” Zaneos agreed and motioned to Tang Shaoyang to follow him, “You want to see how we trained the students…” the demon paused, “I don’t think it will be interesting for you. What about if I show you the veteran who is about to join the Tarrior, TEIS (Tang Empire Internal Security), and TEID (Tang Empire Intelligence Division) instead?”
“Veterans?” Tang Shaoyang did not remember about the veteran program included in the academy. The academy was supposed to train the young generation or people with low levels. The academy was to train the future of the Tang Empire.
They walked side by side, entering the academy through the front gate. A lot of people recognized Zaneos, and they greeted the demon with respect despite his race. The people of the Tang Empire accepted the other races after the initial integration.
Tang Shaoyang remembered in the early days that he heard a lot about the issue. They received too many reports about the harassment of the non-human race. He took the issue seriously and took an extreme measure. After that, he left the rest up to his Prime Minister, and it seemed Li Shuang did well.
“You haven’t heard about it yet?” Zaneos thought Tang Shaoyang already knew about the new program.
Tang Shaoyang furrowed his brow, trying to recall as he might forget about it. However, he did not remember about the veteran program mentioned.
“We have received a big influx of immigration lately. TEID and TEIS work hard to sort them out to make sure we are not accepting criminals or spies from the other factions. After vigorous selection and investigation, we accepted them to stay in the Tang Empire. There’s a probation period for them. If they don’t cause trouble in one year, they will be accepted as the Tang Empire’s citizens and allowed to stay here permanently.”
Tang Shaoyang listened to Zaneos without interrupting. He had heard about this, but he did not interrupt, letting the demon finish his explanation.
“Most of these people moved to our empire to join the Adventurer Guild. They heard about how the guild and the empire treated the adventurers. However, many also wanted to join the Tarrior after they heard about Tarrior’s treatment. That’s how we created a veteran program. Regardless of their level and rank, they must go through one year of rigorous training and discipline in our empire. If they pass the test, then they could serve the empire whether it’s Tarrior or TEID or TEIS.”
“So what you will see are mostly foreigners that are at Epic Rank at the lowest rank up to Myth Rank. They had some experience with the dungeon delving, but they are quite awful compared to our Tarrior in the same rank. Most of their bloodline is crappy as well. We need to work in that regard as well.”
Zaneos listed the problem with the immigrants. Zaneos was surprised at how much weaker these people were compared to the Tarrior in the same rank. That was why they created this veteran program, not just to make sure they did not recruit troublemakers, but also to make them stronger.
“I am teaching the basic swordsmanship, and sometimes Zowen will teach them a magic class. In fact, she is quite a good teacher. The students manage to learn Mana Sense and Mana Control from her, a good basic skill to be a mage. You should put some incentive for her to take more classes if you want to form an elite mage corps for your Tarrior.”
Zaneos had grown closer to the magus since both contracted spirits in Tang Shaoyang early in the day. Both were the first five spirits he contracted. That was why they grew closer after the resurrection.
“Zowen spends most of her time delving into a dungeon, going into the Dimensional Tower, and also doing some research in her magic tower. Even though she could learn the skill the easy way, she still believes learning the spell manually has more benefits which I agree with.”
Tang Shaoyang rubbed his chin and considered Zaneos’ suggestion. However, there was something he was curious about, which Zowen researched. He did not know how or what Magus conducted research for.
‘I should meet Zowen and ask her more about magic. Maybe I can integrate magic into my fighting style,’ Tang Shaoyang thought to himself. He still had a reward for his class that he had not decided what to take. Maybe taking some magic-related class was not as bad as he thought.
“We are here, Your—” Zaneos stopped midway, “This is the training ground for the veterans.”
