Qin Tiantian thought about it all night and still felt that if it were true, she would truly be too ashamed to face Duan Yi. Her upbringing would never allow her to do something as deceitful as stealing someone else’s place.
If… if her parents really did as her second brother suggested, she would move out and try to cut ties with them. Otherwise, she would feel forever indebted to Duan Yi.
Thinking this, Qin Tiantian resolutely said to Duan Yi, “Let’s go.”
Duan Yi gave Qin Tiantian a deep look, then turned and followed her.
Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin’s gazes remained fixed on Qin Tiantian.
Duan Yi naturally noticed this. She was jealous and couldn’t hold back, snapping at Qin Tiantian, “When the truth comes out, you must repay everything you owe me!”
Qin Tiantian pursed her lips, trying to control her emotions and not let herself cry.
“Miss Tiantian, no, don’t cooperate with her, don’t…” Aunt Mao cried, her eyes filled with heartache as she watched the two walk away. She completely disregarded her nominal daughter.
Seeing the medical staff still coming for her, she struggled desperately, her actions only confirming something, making everyone’s hearts race.
Finally, the medical staff forcibly took the necessary tissue samples for the DNA test.
Since Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin’s samples were already stored, they didn’t need to make another trip.
Watching the medical staff leave, Sixth Aunt Qin could no longer control herself. She lost her usual gentle demeanor and lunged at Aunt Mao like a madwoman, grabbing her collar and shouting, “Tell me, did you really switch the children? Speak! Speak!”
Aunt Mao was dazed for a moment, then suddenly pushed Sixth Aunt Qin away. “Why did you bring Tiantian back? Such a good child, such a good child! Why are you chasing the truth? You raised her for eighteen years—don’t you have any feelings for her? Why are you being so cruel!”
Her words indirectly confirmed something.
“So… so Tiantian really isn’t…” Sixth Aunt Qin staggered backward, and Sixth Uncle Qin quickly caught her. He glared at Aunt Mao and said, “What did we ever do to wrong you that you would be so cruel? Where is your conscience? Did a dog eat it? So when you came to us for help back then, you were planning to deceive us? You used our kindness to switch the children. How could you…”
Sixth Uncle Qin truly wished he could tear the old woman apart. Why did such a person exist? They had only ever been kind—what had they done to deserve this?
Aunt Mao wept and said, “I had no choice. I just wanted my daughter to have a good life. I had no choice, it was all… all…”
She habitually looked for someone to blame, but her husband was already terrified. “It’s not my fault! I only found out later. It was all this crazy woman’s idea. She treated her daughter like her life, thinking her daughter deserved a good life, so she targeted you long ago. She served in households like yours every day—how could she keep a normal mind? She was just insane.”
The two started arguing in front of the Qin family.
But the Qin family wasn’t foolish and wouldn’t be swayed by Aunt Mao’s excuses.
Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin finally couldn’t hold back and started beating Aunt Mao.
After all, today’s tragedy was all her doing—her selfishness and greed had ruined the lives of two innocent girls and devastated the Qin family.
When Qin Tiantian and Duan Yi came out, they saw Aunt Mao being beaten. Both were stunned. Although the results weren’t out yet, the fact that they were already beating her meant Aunt Mao might have confessed. Qin Tiantian’s face went blank, while Duan Yi’s face lit up with joy.
Noticing their presence, Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin stopped. Aunt Mao, bruised and battered, looked at Qin Tiantian and said, “Tiantian, Mom is sorry, so sorry… I was useless. I couldn’t protect your life. I was useless.”
Qin Tiantian’s face was pale, and Sixth Aunt Qin looked like she was about to lose her mind. That was her precious daughter, after all.
Duan Yi stared straight at Aunt Mao. She finally saw this woman’s maternal side, but it wasn’t directed at her. “Mao Jie, shouldn’t you be apologizing to me?”
Duan Yi rushed forward and grabbed Aunt Mao’s collar. “Eighteen years! I was your daughter for eighteen years! If you had given me even a tenth of the love you gave Tiantian, we could have continued as mother and daughter! You stole my life but refused to give me even a shred of compensation. You let me be beaten and bullied by them, while your real daughter lived a good life. Do you really have no conscience? Won’t you make up for the sins you committed?”
Aunt Mao didn’t want to face Duan Yi and tried desperately to avoid her, looking at Qin Tiantian instead. Seeing her like this, Duan Yi really wanted to laugh.
She didn’t know if this counted as great maternal love—plotting so much for her child, willing to bear all the sins herself.
If only she had taken Duan Yi away and been a good mother to her, Duan Yi wouldn’t hate everyone so much now that she knew the truth.
Duan Yi let go of Aunt Mao and turned to Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin. “You know the truth now. You know I’m your daughter. Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin were still in a daze, on the verge of collapse.
At this point, Qin’s Father, the former head of the family, stepped forward. “The Qin family’s child must return. You can rest assured about that. As for you, do you have any demands?”
Qin’s Father could tell the girl had something to say.
Duan Yi looked at Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin with resentment, then turned to Qin’s Father and said, “I want Mao Jie to go to prison! I want her to pay for what she did!”
Aunt Mao looked at Duan Yi in disbelief.
Ji Fei, who had been silently watching, almost laughed at Aunt Mao’s expression. [Why is she surprised? Did she think Duan Yi wouldn’t retaliate? How dare she be surprised!]
“That’s a given. Anyone who dares to do such a thing to the Qin family will face the consequences,” Qin’s Father said.
Duan Yi avoided Aunt Mao’s gaze, her eyes filled with resentment and pain. Then she suddenly pointed at Qin Tiantian and said, “The Qin family—either I stay, or she does!”
“No! That’s impossible! Absolutely not!” Sixth Aunt Qin was the first to object, breaking down in tears.
But the more she reacted like this, the more Duan Yi hated her. Why? Why… Just as her anger reached its peak, a staff member rushed out.
“Based on the available data and DNA results, Mao Jie is confirmed as Duan Yi’s biological mother!”
The room fell silent, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Another staff member ran out.
“Based on the available data and DNA results, Mao Jie is excluded as Qin Tiantian’s biological mother!”
The room remained eerily silent.
Finally, when two more staff members came out and confirmed that Qin Tiantian was indeed the child of Sixth Uncle Qin and Sixth Aunt Qin, and that Mao Jie was not, someone finally spoke.
“No! This can’t be! It’s you… you don’t want to acknowledge me! That’s why you’re putting on this act and faking the evidence!” Duan Yi suddenly screamed.
