175 Ch. 175 The Past (2)
“Jie Jie? Anxia opened Michele’s bedroom door, then walked over to her sister, who looked comfortable lying on her bed.
“Sob. Xiao Xia doesn’t love me anymore. Xiao Xia will leave me.”
Little Anxia pressed her lips―her chest felt tight for some reason, and her heart ached when she heard her sister’s heartbreaking sob. If possible, Anxia didn’t want to leave this house―if possible, she wanted to get out of Master Yu’s clutches and live among the Wongs like this.
Even though Mr. and Mrs. Wong weren’t her biological parents, Anxia could still feel their sincere familial love. But what could a child like her do? If Anxia insisted on staying here, there was a possibility that Master Yu would injure this family.
Anxia crawled on the bed until she came face to face with Michele. She lifted Michele’s hand so she could get between her sister’s hands to squeeze their bodies together. Anxia wrapped her tiny arms across Michele’s stomach and hugged her sister.
“That’s not true, Michele Jie. I love you very much and will never leave you,” said Anxia firmly. “I’ll be back next week, and we can play to our heart’s content.”
“Really?”
“Really, really.”
Michele returned the hug to her sister, and the two fell asleep cuddling together until dinner.
.....
The following day, with heavy feelings, Michele and her parents sent Anxia and the other students off to join the special program. No one knew that Anxia was separated from the other children and taken away to begin training to become Master Yu’s killing machine.
On the first day, Anxia felt aching all over her body, and there were several bruises in certain places, resulting in a fever on the second day. If she were with the Wong family now, her adoptive mother would take care of her and cook porridge and her favorite food. Alas, there was no one to take care of Anxia in this place. Instead of allowing her to rest, her mentor forced her to get up to continue with the following training.
Anxia’s fragile body wasn’t strong, and she fainted on the third day, and no matter how hard her mentor tried to wake her up, Anxia still didn’t wake up and only woke up on the fourth day. The mentor was increasingly cruel to provide harsh, brutal training to make up for one day missed.
Both feet and hands were attached with metal bracelets weighing two kilograms. Anxia was forced to climb a hill and fetch water from a well with two trays. Then she was required to come back down carrying two trays full of water without being allowed to spill the contents.
Anxia’s tears fell as she stomped with her weight on her hands and feet.
Since she woke up this morning, she hadn’t had breakfast, and now she was starving. But her mentor gave Anxia up to six hours to return to the base with two water trays; if Anxia were late, her mentor would not feed her for the day.
Trying to push aside the pain and fatigue inside her, little Anxia forced herself beyond her limits to keep going without stopping. Exactly 6 hours later, Anxia arrived with two trays full of water, standing in front of her mentor.
Satisfied with the girl’s final results, the mentor gave her an abundance of food. The problem was Anxia was too tired and had no appetite anymore. Anxia ate a bowl of rice with pieces of meat and then took a break. However, the heartless mentor didn’t allow her to rest because Anxia had slept too long on the third day. After dinner, the mentor trained her in the most basic martial arts.
Ever since she woke up on the fourth day, her mentor didn’t allow Anxia to sleep and trained her by giving Anxia’s age children the impossible work to do. Only on the seventh day was Anxia allowed to rest as much as she wanted. The herbalists smeared all the bruises or scratches on Anxia’s body. Hours later, the bruises had faded until they were barely visible, while the scrapes had closed again.
Even though Anxia’s physical wounds had healed and disappeared, her mental and emotional wounds were still there. Anxia felt tired, and her heart turned as hard as steel and cold.
When the headmaster returned her to the Wong family, Michele and her parents welcomed her warmly and enthusiastically. But Anxia could no longer accept their presence with the same enthusiasm. She couldn’t seek help, and her mentor frequently reminded her that Mr. Wong was at fault for her father’s death. Anxia didn’t believe it, but once again, she was a child and had no one to rely on.
At that time, Anxia couldn’t believe anyone but herself.
A few months later, the school principal proposed the same program for Anxia. This time the program would last for two weeks―the same goes for school holidays. Every time Master Wong wished to take his whole family on vacation, Master Yu had many ways to bring Anxia out of the Wong family to continue her training.
Anxia’s harsh training experience, combined with her having to act in front of the Wong family, made Anxia more adept at tolerating pain and fatigue, as well as in her theatrics. She no longer had trouble putting on a fake expression mask after living her abnormal life for two years.
One night, Anxia could no longer withstand the pressure she was experiencing and cried in her room. She tried to hold back her sobs so no one could hear her cries. She never expected Michele, who missed her so much, to walk toward Anxia’s room. Then, Michelle heard sobbing from her sister’s room, which made her panic, and she immediately opened Anxia’s door without thinking.
Michele stepped quickly into Anxia’s bed after turning on the light.
“Xiao Xia, what’s wrong? Why are you crying? Are you hurt?”
Anxia gasped in surprise, not expecting her sister to come to her room in the middle of the night.
“Did you have a bad dream?”
Anxia didn’t know how to answer Michele’s earlier question, so she decided to nod in affirmative to her sister’s last question. Anxia was even more speechless when Michele hugged her tightly.
“Shh. Don’t cry. It’s just a bad dream. It won’t happen in the real world. I’ll sleep here to chase away all your nightmares. Okay?”
Anxia gripped her pajama shirt tightly. “Why you’re so nice?”
“Because you are my sister, and I love you very much.”
‘Don’t be nice to me.’ Anxia pleaded silently because she knew, sooner or later, master Yu would order her to destroy this family.
